Description

fiuitml w s a 6 f3 I; I
eas est IIVIPROVEMENT 1N OIL-BOXES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern-.-
Be it known that l, J. W Rnosnns, of Clyde, in the county of Sandusky, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil-BoXes or Lubricators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, refer ence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification, and in which' Figure 1 represents a perspective view of my oil-box or lubricator, and
Figm'e 2, a longitudinal central section of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in providing a lubncator or oil-box with a out-oil, consisting ofa metal rod, provided at its lower end with a rubber disk fitting against an opening or chamber in a tube or spout placed in the lower part of said lubrieator, and furnished at its upper end with a stopper orcork fitting into another tube, through which the oil is poured into the lubricator or oil-box.
To enable those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains, to make and use the same, I will now describe its construction and operation.
In the accompanying. drawings, A represents the casing of the lubricator, which 'is provided with an opening, over which slides, in dovetail grooves, a lid or cover, B, furnished with a catch, 7).
G designates a metal rod running diagonally across the oil-chamber of lubricator A, and provided at its lower end with a rubber disk, 0, which, when the vehicle is in motion, will be pulled out from the opening or channel 0, made in an inclined direction through the casing A, and a tube, 0 attached thereto and entering a suitable aperture on the shoulder of the axle, so as to allow the oil from said tube to flow on that part of the axle embraced by the hub of the wheel, and when the vehicle is not in'motion the disk 0 will be pushed in, so to stop the flow of oil through tube 0 The rod'or cut-oil O is furnished, at its upper end, with a stopper or handle, 0, which is made, on a portion of its surface, so as to enter a tube, d, placed on the casing A in an inclined position, and tl'u'ough which the oilis poured into the oil-chamber of the lubricator.
f designates a shoulder formed on the outer end of easing A, and scooped out on its under side, so as to fit on the shoulder of the axle.
\Vbat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the oil-box A, cut-off 0, tubes 0 and (I, and shoulder]; all constructed, arranged, and operated substantially as and for the pulpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
I J. W. RHOADES.
Witnesses:
Jos. ZEPERmcK, JAMns CARTER.
