To all whom it may concern.-
Be'it known that I, LE HOLTSCHNEIDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Jefierson City, county of Cole, and State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Gas-Burners and AutomaticCut-Ofl's Therefor', of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in gas-burners and automatic cut-oifs-therefor, and has for its ob'ect to provide an exceedi ly simple and e ective device of this description which absolutelyprevents the escape of gas ii -quantities sufficient to do damage should the light become extinguished.
-With these ends in view this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set' forth and then specifically designated by the claims.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful-is- 1. The hereirrdescribed combination of a base threaded for application to a gasfixture, said base having an upper concave surface and an opening through said surface 05 the axial line, said base also having a groove around its circumference and a hole leading from the interior thereof to said groove, a pillar adjustably fitted to said base, means for holding said pillar in any adjustment; said pillar having a passage-way leading from the groove in the base to the interior of the pillar, a regulating-screw, the end of which crosses sald passage, a ball adapted to normally close the openin in the concave sur face,fa-tip secured to t e pillar, said tip being of low-heatconducting material, a plate of high-heatconducting material secured to the tip and a thermostat consisting of two kinds of metal of difierent expanding qualities.

In combination with a burner of the character described, a thermostat consisting of a plate of high-heat -cond ucting qualities and two strips of metal of difierent expanding qualities extending side by side .for a certain distance and then being reversed for the remainder of their length, as and for the purpoes set forth.
