Description

HENRY G.` KRASKY, oF -BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA.
GnAlN'lNG-MAGHINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Dec. 25, 1906.
Application filed July l0, 1906. Serial No.1325,552.
To all whom it `may concern:- Be it known that I, HENRY G. KRAsxY, a citizen of the f United States, residing at '.Berkeley, in the county of Alameda and State of California, vhave invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grainingf Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable othersl skilled in the art to which it'appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, `and to the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to vnew and useful improvements in apparatus forv graining surfaces, and comprises a simple and efiioient device of this nature consisting of a' suitable frame having a," composition roller with a feed-roller resting thereon, and in the prowhich vision of a grainmg-roller provided with removable strips upon which the designs to be transferred are held and adapted to be adjustably held, so as to contact with the composition roller as the two rollers rotate toward each other.l
The invention consists, further, in various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described andl then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I yillustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the frame of myapparatus, showing the graining and impression rollers in elevaltion. Fig. 2 is a top plan view, and Fig. 3 is a sectional View through the -graining-roller.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter,` A designates the frame of the "apparatus, upon which are l mounted the bearings B, in whicha shaft C is journaled, which shaft has a pinion-wheel C fixed thereto, adapted to mesh with a worm D, rotating with the shaft D mounted in suitable bearings upon the frame.
F designates a second shaft journaled in bearings F which are adjustably held uA on the frame, and G is a pinion-wheel fixe to the shaft F and adapted to mesh with a worm G', alsoxed to the shaft D. It will be noted that said worms are so formed with right and left threads that the two cylinders I and K, rotating, respectively, with said shafts', will be caused to rotate toward each other in thedirection of vthe arrows. Said roller or cylinder I has a coating of a composition material about its circumference and rotates in contact with the circumference of the design roller or cylinder K, upon which the design is formed. Said cylinder K has annular slotted ends and is held to the endsy of the cylinder K by means of the fianges O, projecting from the inner surface.
Directly underneath thecylinder K, which has the fianges O, is an ink-tank Q, in which `said cylinder rotates, and Q ydesignates a wiper pivoted to the frame and has a rod R fixed thereto, and a portion of said rod has threads adapted to receive the adjusting.
wheel It.
VDirectly underneath the cylinder I. is a tank T, in which the cylinder I rotates for the purpose of washing off the ink thereon, and is a scraper which has a rod T2 fixed thereto and an adjusting-wheel T3 fitted upon the threaded part thereof.
A feeding-roller W is journaled upon the arms W', which are pivoted at their rear ends to the frame, and said roller is adapted to ride upon the composition cylinder, whereby the object upon the surface of which the design is to be transferred may be held.
From the foregoingit will be noted that by the provision of the a paratus shown and described a simple an efficient means is afforded for transferring designs of various kinds first from the design-cylinder to the compositionsurface of the cylinder I, thence to any surface which may be held in contact with the rotating cylinder.
W'hat I claim is- A graining-machine comprising a frame, a hollow cylinder adapted to bear a design and having an annular groovein each end, the
louter wall of each groove projectin beyond .the inner wall of the groove, cylin er-heads ends and the ends of said cylinder being Iiush,
I-OO
and rods passing through said ends andadapted to hold the same in engagement with the cylinder, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my ksignature in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY G. KRASKY.
