The principal object of this invention is to rovide a sim 1e, economical, and efficient sand-blast mec anism adapted to be used for as car-wheels and t ike. A further object is to provide a sand-blast mechanism adapted to-subject the article to be operatedupon to a plurality of currents or blasts and sand, so as to enablethe-arti; cle operated upon to be'cleaned on opposite sides without. thenecessity of removing it from the blast-boxer reversing it laterally during the process of being-cleaned.

the colnbinationof a receptacle forming a f chamber for containing a car wheel or wheels to be operated upon,'.blastpipes leading to such receptacle and communicating with the chamber formed thereby, a sand receiving and feeding hopper provided with passages leading to such blastpipes, a compressed-air pipe communicating with the blast-pipes and 7 e material which is adapted to be connected with a source of compressed air, anoutlet-pipe leading from the operating-chamber of such receptacle, a settling-chamber with which such outletpipe communicates, and a hopper-bottom for such settling-chamber provided with openings for discharging material therethrough.

In a mechanism of the class described, the combination of a receptacle forming a chamber for containing a car wheel or wheels to be operated upon, blast-pipes leadin to such receptacle, a sand receiving and feeding hopper provided with passa es leading to such blast-pipes, a compresse air pipe communicating with the blast-pipes and adapted to be connected with a source of compressed air, an outlet-pipe leading from the operating-chamber of such receptacle, a settlingchamber' with which such outlet-pipe communicates, a hopper-bottom for such settling-chamber provided with openings for discharging material therethrough, and means for convegni material from one of, such openings ac to the sand receiving and feeding hopper.
