Specification of LettersA Ipatent.
' l Patented pag.25, 190e.
Application illad November 10, 1995. SerialNo. 286,767.
To all whom it4 may concern:
Be it known that I, HALvER O. HALVER- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hawley, in the county of Clay and State of .Minnesota v.have invented a new and useful Improvement `in Bundle-Loaders, of which Vthe following is a specification.
l This invention relates to a device ada ted tobe used in loading bundles of grain, ay, hemp, clover, and the like materials u on a Wagon, the material to' be loaded eing lpicked u by the device from the ground and deliver-e `to an endless carrier which in turn conveys' it to the wagon, the loader and wagon being driven side by side.
.The special objectothe device is to load `frame.'being shown 'in transverse section.'
I @block 'and a ,j that portion of the frame, and upon t which falls from the bundles or which has not been tied., l
The invention .consists of the novel features of construction hereinafter full described, po'inted out in the claims, and s own in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a plan view of the device complete. Fig. 2 is aside elevation of the frame and gathering mechanism, the elevator being shown in-dotted lines. Fi 3- is a plan view of the device with the e evator removed. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the elevator, the
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective' view of a sliding portion .0f a crank-shaft journaledtherein.
In the drawings, 1 represents a rectangular frame provided with parallel' cross-pieces 2, on which is journaled a shaft 3, which forms the drive-shaft of the device, and on this shaft is the ground-wheel 4, which supports 'posiite end of the frame is j ournaled a shaft 5, upon which is a similar wheel 6, the entire frame 1 being sup ortedb ...the wheelsftand 6. Sprocket-whee s 7 an 8 are fixed upon the shaft 3, and'upon an end portion of this .shaft is pivoted a forwardly-extending arm 9, and a similar arm 10 is pivoted upon the in- I nerend of the shaft 51 In these arms 9 and *i ss 1 O is rotatably j-ournaled a compound cranked shaft 11, which at one end is provided with a sprocket-.wheel 12, and a sprocket-chain 13 travels over the sprocket- Wheels 7 and 12 and rotates the cranked shaft 11.
Downwardly and forwardly projecting finthe material c o cable 28 is connected at its-rear end to the.
' bundles,
gers -14 extend from the forward side of a rockable linger-head 14, pivoted in bearings 14h, carried by the frame 1 and below and in advance of the cranked shaft 11,V and these fingers collect the bundles and the loose grain or other material to be loaded. 'Arms 15 are pivotally mounted intermediate their ends u on the cranked portions of theshaft dp at their outer freeends carry crossheads 16, which cross-heads are rovided with a pluralit oflngers 17, whic deliver llected by the fingers 14; to an endless carrier to be described hereinafter.
To provide for the adjustment vertically of the shaft v11, the rear end of the frame '1 carries an upwardly and forwardly extending beam 18, and to the forward en'd of this beam is secured a curved sleeve 19, 4which is longi tudinally slotted upon the sides, as shown at 20. In this sleeve slides a curved block 21,
` `through `which the cranked shaft 11 freely passesl A standard 22 is mounted upon the eam 18 and'at its upper end carries an idle pulley 23, and a similar pulley 24 is carried in Upon the rear of the beam 18 is mounted a arranged within easy reach'of a seat 27. Ay
lever 25 and passes forwardly under the pulley 24 and over the pulley 23 and at itsforward end is connected to the sliding block 21.
Upon the beam 18 is pivoted a triangulara suitable bracketplaced upon thebeam 18 8o .immediately to the rear of' the standard 22.
shaped frame 29, arranged transversely with 9o respect to the beam, and pivot-links A30 con neet the ends of the frame 29 to the ends of thearms 15.. From the fingers 14 and ad`acent the side of the frame v1 extends a plurality of 'upwardly and rearwardly 'curved short iin ers 31, which serve to guide the ay, or the like in their passage from the iingers tothe elevator or carrier.
In order to adjust the iingers 14 with respect to' the ground, short arms 32 are Xed at the opposite ends ofthe finger-head, and along vthe rear side of'the frame extends a rotatable rod 33, adapted to be partially rotated by means of a-lever 34, which works over a quadrant 35, also arranged adjacent the seat27. Upon each end of the rod-is a short arm 36, and, thearms 32and 36 at each IOO.
IIO
frame, and the s rocket-wheel 40 is :fixed on the shaft 39, an an idler 41 is mounted on the shaft 38. 'Ad sprocket-chain 42 runs over the s rocket-Wheels 8 and 4G, the under portion o' the chain being guided Y by the' Idler 41.' The short shaft 43 1s journaled on the rear side oi the frame and carries ya beveled pinion 44, which meshes with a beveled pinion 45, carried by the shaft 39, and at its outerend ,the shaft 43 carries a drive-gear 46.
',lMount'e'd upon the frame 1 is a suitable platform having a level or horizontal portion Q4?, and an upwardlyinclined ortion 49, Which-extends laterally above t e Wheel 4.
For conveying the grain ily rovide a carrier -comprising a plurality'of spiked slats 48, the
ends .ofwhichare connected to suitable end- 'less chains 50, which are of the usual form of ,link'sprOCket-chanS. and these chains travel over sprocketwheels 51, mounted upon suitably-'arranged shafts 52.
upprmost shaft 52.
Will be obvious that hy havin? the plate form with. the horizontal and inc ined porv tions i7 and` 49 arranged beneath and adja- .,vented, as such cent the carrier the-loss of loose grains 1s preains are collected upon the level portion oit eplatform instead of being scattered upon'the-ground.
The carrier is driven'by a s rooketchain 53,' which runs over. the gearW eel 46, and a suitable sprocket-Wheel 54, carried by' the operation the grainor material colleeted i 4 by the fingers '14 is thrown upon the carrier 35 bythe fingers vI7, carried by the rotating arms 15, and by the carrier is conve ed tothe wagon or other place into which t e material is toxbe placed. It will be noted that the.
. carrier is arranged transversely between thefrontV and rear sides of the frame 1, and the upwardly-inclined portion of the carrier, 4 which is sup orted by 'a suitable brace-bar 4 55, projects a ove and beyond .one end of the` frame. A suitable tongue 56 is f also connected to this end of the frame.
L Having thus fully described my invention,
what I 'claim as newyand desire to secure'by Letters Patent, is- I 1. The combination witha rame,'of an tions of sai arms, iinger-carrying arms joui-,
naled upon the cranked port-ions of the said shaft, a curved and slotted sleeve supported above the frame, a sliding curved block in the sleeve, the said shaft passing through the slotsof the sleeve and 'loosely through the said block, and means for sliding thv block in the sleeve.
3. A device of the kind described comprising a frame, an endless, belt-like carrier, carried-by the frame, means for drivimf the carrier, pivot-arms carried by the Trame, a cranked shaft Journal-led 1n said arms adm .centtheir free ends, arms mounted'interme diate their ends upon the cranked portions of said shaft, fin ers carried by said arms', an upwardly' and orwardl extending beam carried bythe frame, a s eeve longitudinally curved' and havin the said bearn'a shdable block inv the sleeve, the cranked shaft assing through said block and the slots of t ie sleeve, a second frame mounted on an upwardly-exionding beam,
links pivotally connected to the ends of said rameandto the arms carrying the lingers, means for rotatin the 'cranked shaft. and means for slidinj t e block in the sleeve.
