Be it known that I, JAMES W. FATTERSON, of the city and county of New York and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Vending-Machines, of Which the following is a speeication.

M invention has reference to vendingmac lnes; and it consists of'certain improvements, which are fully set forth in the followlng specification and shown in the accompa-v nying drawings, Which form a part thereot.

My present invention is an improvement upon the structure of vending-machines forming subjectmatte1of my Letters Patent No. 796,010, dated August 1, 1905. In my said Letters Patent specified above the case is provided with a spring-actuated iioor for raising the article, and said floor is furnished with side arms which forced u the lid when released by the coin-controlle lock; but no provision Was made .to lockv thelid-raising,

In the preferred iorm of my invention I usually make the spring-actuated part which raises the lid of such construction that it also acts to support and raise the article to some distance above the upper opening of the case to permit of its easy removal.l

The form of coin-controlled lock here shown is similar in general respects to that shown in my application, Serial No. 104,752, filed April 26, 1902, before referred to, but embodiessome minor features of novelty.

The coin-controlled lock is arranged at the front of the case, and the lid B opens backf ward, which makes the structure more easily and conveniently operated.

While I prefer the construction shown as excellently adapted in practice to the purposes of my'invention, the details may be modied with out departingfrom the spirit of the invention. n

Having now described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-,-'

1.. In a vending-machine, the combination of a case to contain an article, a movable lid hinged to the case, a lock for unlocking the lid, a spring-actuated support normally held in a depressed position within the case by the lidl and adapted to rise when the lid is released to raise the article and hold the lid in an open position, and a locking device for locking the spring-actuated support infits elevated position, whereby the lid is locked against being closed.

In a vending-machine, the combination of a case to'contain an article and having a keyhole, a movable lid hingedto the case, a lock for unlocking the lid, a spring-actuated support normally held in a depressed position Within the case by the lid and adapted to rise when the lid is released to raise the article and holdthe lid in an open position, and a locking device for lookin@ the .sprinmactib ated support in its elevated position whereby the lid is locked against being closed said look'ing device being located in line with the keyho whereby it can be unlocked by the insertion of a'key through the keyhole.

4. In a vending-machine, the combination of a case adapted to contain the article, a movable lid, a lock for locking the lid, a springactuat'ed part carried by the case and adapted to rise to obstruct the lid in closing, and a locking device for locking the spring-aetu` ated part in its obstructing position so as to lock the lid in its open position.

6.
