$pecification of Letters Patent.

Application filed March 7,1906. Serial No. 804,761.
improve the construction and increase the utility and efficiency of devices of this class.
-With these and other objects in view, which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, as hereinafter fully described and claimed.
. vation.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which corresponding parts are denoted by like designating characters, is illustrated the preferred form of the embodiment of the invention capable of carrying the same into practical operation.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional ele- Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the saw-engaging clip and its threaded head and the clamp-washer in osition thereon.
he improved device comprises a ferrule 10, internally threaded at one end and with the wood handle 11 connected to the other end. Engaging the threaded ortion of the ferrule is a threaded plug 12, iaving'a central aperture 13, enlarged slightly at one end. Fitting in the aperture in the plug is a sawengagin c ip 14, having alongitudinal slot 15, in w ich the saw 16 is supported. The cli is riveted at one end at 17 in the inner enl arged end of the aperture in the plug 12 and a wedge-key 18 forced into the portion of the slot 15 within the plug and expanding the material of the clip into the en] arged outer end of the aperture, and thereb firmly securing the clip into the plug. lidably disposed upon the clip 14 is a clamp washer or plate 19, having a shoulder 20 extending into the free end of the ferrule, the latter bein unthreaded for a short distance to previ e a bearing for the shoulder, as shown.
The clamp-washer thus bears goth upon the" e gaging said ferrule 10 and upon the adjacent edge of the saw 16, and by rotating the ferrule in one (llrection the plug .12, carrying the clip 1a with it, firmly clamps the saw against the washer and the washer against the ferrule, as will be obvious. The shoulder 20, bearing, within the ferrule, serves asa lateral brace to support the clip centrally of the ferrule and: A row vent displacement between the parts. The sides of the clip 14 are distended, as'at 21, to prevent the washer passing when the saw is detached.
The manner of constructing and connectfrom the clip ing the clio 14 and the threaded plug 12 is an 1 important feature of. the invention and materially cheapens the construction and enables a broken or worn part to be replaced without the necessity for discarding the whole. device. v
The device is simple in construction, s strong manufactured, and is readily appllcable to different sizes of saws.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed isand durable, can he inexpensiveiy,
1. In a device of the class described, a ferrule internally threaded, a threaded plug engaging said ferrule and with a central aperture enlarged at one end, a slotted member riveted at one end in said aperture, a wed ekey forced into the slot where it enters t e aperture washer slidable upon said slotted member at the inner end of the same, and a 8'5 and provided with a shoulder projecting into said ferrule and bearing between the ferrule and the saw held in sai slot.
2. In a device of the class described, a farrule internally threaded, a threaded plug enferrule and with a central aperture enlarged at one end, a slotted member riveted at one end in said aperture, a wed ekey forced into the slot where it enters t e aperture at the inner end of the same, and a washer slidable upon said slotted member and bearingloetween said ferrule and saw.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I-have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
