tors, and has more particular reference to that class of annunciator used for indicating the approach or presence of cars or vehicles at a'particular point or on a defined section of track.
I will describe a train-annunciator embodying my invention and then point out the novel features thereof in claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a train-annunciator embodying my invention, the casing or cover for the same being shown in section. is a sectional elevation thereof, taken on the irregular dotted lines 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, showing the operating parts in another position. These views illustrate my invention as constructed and arranged for use with a normally open circuit. Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, illustrating my invention as constructed and arranged for use with a normally closed circuit.

Referring to the drawings, A designates a suitable casing having a cover B, the latter being provided wlth an opening C, before which is exposed to view a display device D, formed of a card or other device for displaying information. There may be a plurality of openings and a plurality of display devices, each display device being operated from an independent mechanism. The card or device D has two positions, in one of which the presence of a train or vehicle at any part or in any defined section of track is denoted.

Referring to Figs. 1, 3, and 4, it will be noted that the card. or device D is arranged on the free end of an arm D, which latter is pivotally supported in bearings F, arranged in the casing B, its opposite end being provided with a plurality of arms or extensions (1 (1 d The arm or extension d is preferably provided with a projection which engages a shoulder 8, located at the free end at a latch or pawl f, and when the projection engages the shoulder the pawl f holds the card or (Shown in Figs. 1 and 4,)

The latch or pawl j rests upon the arm or extension (1, and its extremity normally engages a tooth or shoulder 9, provided on the pawl g (in the construction illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, and 3.) when the armature e is not attracted by the electromagnets E.
When the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 1, it will be evident that when the electromagnets E are energized by the action of a train at a determined point or in a defined section of track the armature e'will be lifted, and with it the pawl g, thereby disengaging the pawl f from the arm or extension d. This action releases the card or device D and permits it to drop to the position shown in Fig.3, thus denoting the position of the car or train. The arms or extensions (1 and d are adapted to engage a projection (i which acts as a stop to limit the movement of the card or device D in either direction, and the extension (1 may, furthermore, be employed to engage contact-plates p p, which connect, respectively, with the negative and positive wires p p in a local circuit leading to a suitable audible or visual signal X, (see Fig. 2,) arranged near the annunciator and in a tower or terminal located at a distance from the block-section with wl. oh the annunciator is in electrical circuit.
