Be it kilo-mi that i, Vin-LIAM LESTER LE- LAND, a citizen of the Uniteil States, and a resident of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State oi California, have made certain new and useful improvements in l'lydrz'iulic lillevstors, of which the following is a specii ication.
My invention is an improvement in hydrz'i-ulic elevators ol the type used in pincermining; and it cousis in certain novel con.- structions and combinations of ports hereinafte i'loscribcd and claimed.

A throatliner ll, oi manganese steel or other suitable .material, is arranged within the dischargecasing G, the lower end of the said liner projecting somewhat below the ring E, The liner H is reduced centrally, as at h, and slopes outwardly therefrom at each end and is maintained in its proper position by a setscrew it, threaded through the casing G and engaging an opening it in the side of the ring or collar. A wear-plate comprising a cylindrical lining K is arranged above the throatliner H, the said lining being arranged within the casing G and resting upon the upper edge oi said throat. The opposite end of the casting A is engaged by one end of an externallyscrow-thrcar'l ed sleeve in", the opposite end of the sleeve being engaged by an elbow M having both of its ends internally scrmv-threaded, and to the outer end of the elbow is connected the Water-supply pipe N.
It will be understood that tho water from the ilunie passes through a supply-pipe N, through the casting A and the nozzle C, past the circular opening in the jacket D, and out at tho disclnirgdpipe G, carrying with it the water, sand, and gravel entering through the circular opening in the casing, the device act-- ing in a similar manner to that of the ejectorpump.
Dre :5 ice it has been found that when the water in the pit is lowered to a point but slightly above the opening in the casing the ejector refuses to work, becoming Waterlogged, and it is necessary to introduce air or foreign substances into the sup ply-stream or to introduce air through the circular opening in the aclict. This is a very dill icult operation to i )orform, since it must be done spccd ily, as the pit soon "fills with water and valuable time is lost in searching for the opening in the :ieket whereby to introduce ail. 6. n apparatus of the class described, the combination with the hollow elbow-shaped casting having a 'pivot-pin for engaging a fixed bearing, of a supply-pipe connected with one end of the casting, a nozzle connected with the opposite end, a rotatable jacket having a side opening, encircling the nozzle and concentric therewith, a dischargepipe leading from the jacket, a ring concentric with the nozzle, said ring having an annular chamber provided with openings traversin the inner wall thereof, and means forsupplying air to the annular chamber.
7. in a paratus of the class described, the combination with the hollow casting, having a pivot-pin for engaging a'fixed bearing, a supply-pipe rotatably connected with one end of the casting, a nozzle connected with the opposite end, a acket having a side opening, encircling the nozzle and rotatably connected with the casting, a discharge-pipe leading from the jacket, and means for supplying air to the water passing through ,the nozzle, comprising a hollow ring provided with perforations and arranged concentric zle connected with the o posite end of they casting, a cylindrical jac ret having a side opening, encircllng the nozzle and connected therewith, and a drseharge-p1pelead1ng from the acket and in alinement with the opening of the nozzle, said acket being rotatably connected with the casting.

In apparatus of the class described, the combination of a hollow elbow-shaped casting havinga pivot-pin for engaging a fixed bearing, a water-supply pipe rotatably connected to one end of the casting, a reducingnozzle connected with the opposite end of the casting, a jacket having a side opening, encircling the nozzle and rotatably connected with the casting, and a discharge-pipe leading from the jacket in alinement with the nozzle.

In apparatus of the class described, the combination with the hollow elbowshaped casting, mounting the casting, a water-supply pipe rotatably connected to one end of the casting, a nozzle connected'with'the opposite end thereof, a jacket having a side opening encircling the nozzle and rotatably connected to the casting, and a discharge-pipe leading from the jacket in alinement with the nozzle, said dischargepipe being rotatably connected to said jacket.
