side a way h, which is engaged by a sliding.- clip-h. Holding-arm M has a'U curvem at 5 5V one end, adjacent to which itjis bent downward at m and terminates in a straight arm.' i The U curve m is perforated, in vits longer end to receive a screw R, whose foot bears against one side of the U oi which receives a screw-cap 1. l By adjusting the screw-cap r upon the screw R the arm 'M may be made to bear with more or less firmness against the table H.
In use suplposing the jaws a a tohave been 65 engaged wit i a horizontal ledge B and that the arm e is in a horizontal position, then b loosening-the screw as socket E may be ads-T justed nearer or'farther away from the ledge B to suit the fancy of the person using the 7oV holder. Should it be found that the osition ofthe arm e relative to the screw as oes not allow the socket te be turnedin close enou h to the operator to suit his'taste, the arm e. y drawin it so that its end farthest away from 75 the societ E engages the pin as may be rotated to the position shown in Fig. 2. Should the angle at which the table is held be undesirable, this may be changed by means of the set screws (l O., Should it be desired to 8o change the position of the table relatively to the socket j, this may be donc by loosening the screw j" and adjusting the table to suit' the convenience of the operator. Should none of these changes bring the table to the 85 position which suits the taste ofthe operator, the socket may be changed by placing the sliding a'rin c in the way a5, as shown in Fig. 3, in which case the standard F would be change l from the bore e2 to the bore e4, as `9o shown in Fig. 3, by loosening the set-screw e5. Should the jaws 'a a be engaged `with a vertical instead of a horizontal ledge, such as B, it is seen that the bracket and socket as readily lcnd themselves to various adjustments 95 as in thel horizontal position of the ledge.
The screw l with its adjusting-ca 1' ma be adjusted so as to accommodate t le hol in g-arm M to varying thicknesses of the copyj book or other papers being used by the operaioo tor. i
What'I claim is- 1. In a copy-holder the combination of a i bracket, a socket with a sliding arm attached to it, a sliding and swiveling connection be- 1o tween the arm and the bracket, adjusting- To all whom it may concern." l
Be it known that I, CHARLES M. BRTLETT, a citizen ofthe United States of America, and a resident of Cincinnati, county of Hamilton, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and I useful Im rovements in Co )y Holders, of which the ollowing is a speci ication.
vThe object of my invention is a copy-holder which is'capable of a variety of adjustments toadapt it for use in various positions under diiierent conditions and to suit the tastes of different people;
Ihis object is attained by the means described in the specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in ,which Figure l 'is an elevation oi" a co y-holder embodying my invention, the standiird being shown broken in two and the members brought together to economize space and the ledge to which it is attached being shown in section. Fig. 2 is a similar view ofthe same, showing it adjusted to a different position. Fig. 3 is a similar View showing it adjusted to another position. Fig. 4 is a plan view oi the bracket.
Referring to the parts, the bracket A has jawsva a', carrying aset-screw a2, so that the j aws may be engaged with a ledge B, whether e to of a table, or be vertical, such as the side o a drawer. Bracket A has two horizontal lugs a3 a, through which pass screw-holes al a7, as shown in Fig. 4. Between the lugs@3 a* a vertical way (1,5 is left. In lugs es a4 adjusting-screws O O are located. In the center of the way a5 at a point above lugs a3 a* is a perforation in the bracket A to receive a screw a", which is adapted to engage a sldt ein atslidin r arm e', .which is secured to a socket E. SocketvE has three diametrical bores e2, e3, and e* passing through it, the said bores being at right angles to cach other.` Socket E has a screw-hole extending into the point where bores e2, e3, and e4 intersect to receive a set-screw e5. Bores e2, e3, and c4 are of a diameter to receive the standard F.
Standard F at one end has a socket f, which carries a setsscrew f. .Socket-.f is adapted to receive the vertical end g of\an j arm G, to'which table I-I is secured. Arm G has a pin g to rest\upon top of the socket f and to render the ar'ni G capable of an rotation in the sockctf. 'lable Il has at one curve fm and the other end 6de' screws upon the bracket contati-ing thv .t1-n1, and a. standard engaging the sochot.
