To all whom it may concern.-
- Be it known that W6,'JOSEPH JULIAN and GEORGE BRooKs, citizens of the United States, residing at Oglesby, in the county of Lasalle and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Block-Molds; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and-exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to makeand use the same.
Our invention relates to improvements in molds and linings therefor, and more particularly to one for use in making buildingblocks of concrete and other plastic material.
The object of the invention is to provide a mold of this character which may be readily removed from the molded block or article without injury to the same.
A further object of the invention is to improve and simplify the construction of devices of this character, and thereby render the saine more convenient and efiicient and less expenslve.
With the above and other ob ects in view the invention consists of certain novel fea' tures of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of my improved block-mold.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the removable sides or lining-sections of the mold, and Fig. 5 is a similar'view of one of theremovable ends or lining-sections of the same. i
The embodiment of the invention shown blocks of concrete or the like, and comprises a base or bottom 1, an outer substantially rectangular body or casing 2, and a'plurality of lining-sections 3 4, which form the two sides and two ends of the molded block or article. The body or casing is represented as a whole at 2 and is composed of side walls 5 and end walls 6 of uniform thickness throughoutand inclined inwardly and upwardly, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3, the object to be hereinafter explained. Attached to'the outer vertical faces of the faces correspond to the inclined inner faces of the side members 5 of the casing. casing 2 being formed with walls 5 and 6 of uniform thickness and the lining members 3 and 4 being also formed of uniform thickness can be inexpensively manufactured and without useless or surplus material to increase the weight without corresponding increase in efficiency or utility. The casing and its lining when of wood can thus be constructed from ordinary lumber and without requiring members 3 and 4 are protected and supported by the casing 2 and cleats 10 11; hence can be constructed of relatively'thin material, as shown.
Upon the inner faces of the lining-sections 3 4 may be formed or secured projections 13 of any shape or form to provide cavities or recesses or grooves in the blocks or molded articles for the purpose of lightening the same or for other purposes. If desired, acenter core 15 of any shape may also be provided. I As shown, this core is removably mounted upon the base 1 by the engagement special machinery. The operation of the invention is as follows: The ends 4 and the sides 3 of the mold are first placed in the body or casing 2, and the latter is then mounted upon the base 1. The core 15 is then placed in position and concrete, cement, or other plastic material is packed in the space surrounding said core 1 and between the inner faces of the mold or lining-sections 3 4. After this material has set the handles 9 are grasped and the body or casing 2 is lifted vertically from the sections 3' 4, the inclination of the outer faces of the cleats and the inclination of the side and end Walls 5 6 of the body 2 permitting the casing to be readily removed. After the body or casing 2 is removed the side and end sections 3 4 g and the core 15 may then be readily removed from the molded block without danger of injury to the sides, corners, or other parts of i the green block.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to Without departing from the prin ciple or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus described our invention, What i we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A device of the class described comprising a base, a casing bearing upon said base with its side walls of uniform thickness and inclined inwardly toward the upper free edges, lining members of uniform thickness and disposed within said casing at right angles to said base and bearing upon the same with their outer upper faces engaging the inner upper faces of the casing, and cleats spaced apart and disposed between said casing and. lining members and increasing in thickness toward their lower ends, whereby the outer faces of the cleats are inclined to correspond to the inclined walls of the casing.
