SYSTEM OF HANDLING MATERIAL.
. Specification of Letters Patent.
' Patented Oct. 16, 1906.
Application filed an ry 18,1905. Serial No. 241,711.
To a, whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAM WHEELER BLAISDELL, a citizen of the United States, residin at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Ange es and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Systems of Handling Material; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention-relates to means for handlin material, and particularly to means for han ling and distributing material into receptacles or vats; and some of the objects of the invention are to provide means of this character-which will be simple and cheap in construction andat the same time positive and effective in operation.
Another object of the invention is to provide a main conveyer having a portion thereof elevated and constructed to discharge upon a distributer mounted adjacent thereto.
It is also an object of this invention to provide a main conveyer passing over a traveling tripper and a distributer mounted on the flipper-carria e and constructed to receive discharged from said main confrom the main conveyer or by other means.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists, essentially, in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, substantially as more fully described in the following specification and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a por tion of the main conveyer, illustrating a traveling tripper over which said conveyer passes and whereon the distributer is mounted.
' Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, partly broken away. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Figs. 4 and 5 are detail plan and side elevational views, respectively, of the distributing-wheel. Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. 1, illustrating a modified form of distributer. Fig. 7 is a top plan view of the construction illustrated in Fig. 6, showing the same partly broken away. Fig. 8 is a sectional view taken on line 8 8 of Fig. 6, and Figs. 9 and 10 are end and side elevational detail views of the modified form of distributer-wheel.
Similar characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the'several views.
Referring to the drawings, and particularly to the construction illustrated in Figs. 1 to 5 thereof, inclusive, the reference character 1 designates uprights or posts supporting parallel beams or timbers 2, between which is mounted an inverted trough or channel 3, on the. upper surface whereof are mounted sets of curved rollers or troughing-idlers 4, and within or upon the under side of the trough 3 are mounted sets of straight pulleys or rollers 5, substantially as illustrated particularly in Figs. 1 and 3 of the drawings.
An endless main conveyer or belt 6 is constructed to pass over the troughing-idlers 4 and the sets of straight rollers 5, as well as over a driving pulley or roller and a tail pulley or roller (not shown) in the usual manner, whereby motion is imparted to said conveyer, as will be readily understood bythose skilled in the art to which this invention appertains Upon the beams or timbers 2 are secured track-rails 7, Whereon travel wheels 8, supporting a platform or frame 9, carrying uprights 10, having bearings 11, wherein is journaled a shaft 12, carrying a discharging pulley or roller 13, while a guiding or bend pulley 14 is revolubly mounted in the frame 9 below the discharging-pulley 13, and an inclined frame or timbers 15 are secured to the platform or frame 9 and to the uprights 10 and carry sets of curved rollers or troughingidlers 4, substantially as illustrated in Figs. 1, 2, and 3 of the drawings.
The endless main conveyer 6 is'also adapted to travel up over the sets of curved rollers or troughing-idlers 4 on the inclined frame 15 and over the discharging pulley or roller 13 and down under the bend pulley or roller 14,
back to the sets of curved rollers or troughing-idlers 4 upon theinvertedtrough 3, as will be readily understood.
Mounted upon platform 9, preferably under and adjacent to the discharge-roller 13, is a support or bracket 16, wherein is mounted a vertical shaft 17, carrying a distributerwheel or other device 18, preferably constructed of a disk 19, whereon are formed or secured curved ribs or veins 20, substantially as illustrated in Figs. 4 and 5 of the drawings, and upon the other end of the shaft 17 issecured a beveled pinion 21, meshing with a similar pinion 22 on a horizontal or driven shaft 23, carrying a pulley or band wheel 24, connected by a belt or band 25 with a pulley IIO or band wheel 26' on the shaft of the bendpulley 14, Figs. 1, 2, and 3 of the drawings. By means of this construction the centrifugal distributer is driven or operated from the main belt conveyer either in the manner shown and described from the shaft 12 of the discharging or dump pulley 13 or in any other manner that may be found desirable in practice.
Referring now to Figs. 6 to 10 of the drawings, the reference character 1 designates uprights or posts supporting parallel beams or timbers 2, between which is mounted an inverted trough 3, whereo'n are secured sets of curved rollers or troughing-idlers 4 and wherein are secured sets of straight pulleys or rollers 5, and upon the parallel timbers 2 are secured track-rails 7, whereon travel wheels 8, supporting a frame or platform 9, carrying uprights 10, with which are connected inclined timbers or frame 15, supporting troughingidlers 4, and upon the uprights 10 is mounted a discharging-pulley 13, while below the latter in the frame 9 is mounted a bend-pulley, substantially as shown. A main or endless conveyer or belt 6 passes over said troughingidlers 4 and straight rollers 5, as well as over a driving and tail pulley and up over the discharging-pulley 13 and down under the bend pulley 14, substantially as hereinbefore described specifically in connection with Figs. 1 to 5 of the drawings. By means of this construction the tripper or discharging device can be moved along upon the tracks 7 to any desired point or place throughout the length of the main conveyer or endless belt 6, so that the material conveyed thereby can be discharged therefrom upon the centrifugal distributer mounted upon the tripper-frame and by the latter be uniformly distributed throughout the entire length of said conveyer.
Revolubly mounted in arms 28 upon the tripper platform or frame 9 is a shaft 29, carrying a distributer 30, the other end of said shaft being providedwith a beveled pinion 21, meshing with a similar pinion 22 on a driven shaft 23, carrying a pulley or band wheel 24, connected to a similar wheel 26 on the shaft of the bend-pulley 14 .by belt or band 25, Figs. 6, 7, and 8 of the drawings.
The distributer illustrated in Figs. 6 to 10 of the drawings preferably embodies end disks 31, united by one or more Sshaped frames 32, carrying a plate or bars 33, substantially as illustrated in Figs. 9 and 10 of the drawings.
The operation of this invention will be readily understood from the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the following explanation thereof.
The material to be handled is placed upon the upper curved lead of the main conveyer or endless belt, which may be driven by power applied to the driving-pulley thereof, and the same is progressed until the upper loaded lead of said conveyer reaches the tripper-frame with its load, whereupon it passes up over the sets of curved rollers or troughingidlers on the inclined portion 15 of said frame, thence around a discharging-roller 13, where the material or load is discharged into the distributer, and the conveyer passes from said discharging-pulley down under the bendpulleys 14, back to the sets of curved rollers or troughing-idlers 4 on the inverted trough 3, back to the drivingpulley, as will be readily understood.
The material or load is discharged into or upon the centrifugal distributer, as before explained, and the latter driven from the bendpulley by the pulleys 26 and 24, belt 25, driven shaft 23, and beveled pinions 22 and 21,respectively, distributes or throws the material away from the distributer and automatically distributes the same in a uniform manner.
This invention is not limited to the particular form of construction of traveling tripper and the frame thereof or to the supporting structure of the main conveyer or endless belt, and the right is reserved to make all such changes in and modifications of the same as come within the spirit and scope of the invention.
