To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT DOERING, residing at Waterloo, in the county of'Jefferson and State of Wisconsin, have invented'a new and Improved Box Carriage and Releasing Means, of which the following is a specification.
My invention generally relates to improvements in that type of conveyers for transmitting buckets or other material-holders, and particularly to that class of conveyers in which is included a wire-rope tramway; and in its more specific nature it comprehends an improved arrangement of carrier in which the box or holder is pivotally sustained to automatically tilt, detent mechanism mounted on the carrier for engaging the box and holding it to its upright position during its travel to the point of dumping, and means adjustably mounted on the wire cable for automatically tripping the detent, whereby to release the box at the desired points.
My invention also consists in certain details of construction and combination of cooperative parts, all of which will hereinafter be fully explained, pointed out in the appended claims, and illustrated in the accon1 panying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a wire tramway, showing my improved box-carrier and the detent devices therefor mounted thereon and in position of traveling in the direction to the right. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the carrier at its desired position with the detent in engagement with the tripper device and the box or holder dumped.-

Fig. 4. is a detail view of the tripper. Fig. 5 is a similar view of the detent or box locking device. Fig. 6 is a detail cross'section of the hanger-bar b, showing the safety hook device as engaging with one of the dogs 2. Fig. 7 is a similar view showing the safety device turned to its normal position with its upper finger under the cable 1.
' Referring now to the drawings, in which like characters designate like parts in all'the figures, 1 designates the cable or wire tramway, and 2 the trip device adjustably mounted thereon, whereby it can be readily moved track 1 to clamp the same at any desired point where it is intended the box shall tilt to discharge the load. and to provide for readily setting the trip 2 I form the same of a spring-metal plate split at one end and bent to form an eye 3 and having its ends arranged to be brought close together or separated by means of a thumb-screw, whereby to bind the rope when the screw is tightened and to ride freely on the rope when the screw is loosed.
The trip 2 has a rearwardly-convexed stop whereby to project down below the rope and form a stop 2*, and the forward end is ex tended to engage the rope and has a concaved or crotched shape, as at 2*, to straddle the rope, and thereby hold the stop in a proper alinement and from danger. of being flapped laterally when the detent .on the car rier engages it, as shown in Fig. 2.
The box-carrier comprises a pair of end uprights b' b, a longitudinal cross-bar b, that is bolted to the upper end of the uprights b b, and a pair of vertically-projected iron straps b that project up at one side of and above the Wire rope 1 and have the upper ends bent over to form the loops for the two carriersheaves D D, which engage the wire rope.
Between the lower or pendent ends of the uprights b b is tiltably mounted the box or other holder C, which is pivotally supported by the stud-bolts d on the brackets B, upon which the box tilts, as shown.
The box is so fulcrumed that it normally swings over toward the side, and for holding it vertical to properly receive the load the upper portion of one end 0 of the box C is provided with a plate which is notched to receive the gravity-drop-catch E, pivotally mounted at e on the short stud e on the back of one of the end uprights, as shown, and this catch is connected to one end of a thin rod the upper end of which passes above the cross-bar of the carrier and has its upper end pivotally connected to a lever f, fulcrumed at f in a bearing F, mounted on the cross-bar, and has its forward free end extended and formed with a convexed head to engage with the adjustable stop mem her on the wire rope in such manner that the lever fwill be rocked on its fulcrum, the lock, detent, or catch that engages the notched plateraised out of engagement with the box, and the latter left free to tilt sidewise 011 its end studbearings.
