CLEANING FILTER CLOTHS IN DUST COLLECTORS AND THE LIKE}. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 16-, 1905.

WILHELM FRIEDRICH LUDWIGBETH, OF LUBECK, GERMANY. CLEANING FILTER-CLOTl-IS m DUST-COLLECTORS AND THE LIKE'.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 9, 1906.
Application filed February 16, 1905. Serial No. 245,962.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILHELM FRIEDRICH.
LUDWIG BETH, manufacturer, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Li'ibeck, Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Cleaning of Filter-Cloths in Dust-Collectors and the Like, tion.
.This invention has for its object an improvement in the dust and like filters in which the layer of material perviousto air retains the dust or other matter and must from time to time be freed from the same. This end is at present attained more particularly in tubular filters ortrunks by the filter.- ng material, which during the separating o eration is stretched taut, being temporarily slackened, so that it lies in waves or'folds, after which it is again stretched taut as suddenly as ossible. By this method of operating an cleaning t e material emplo ed constantly stretc ed and by the sudden restretching after being released or creased during the cleaning. operation undergoes a eat strain. Now this in'- vention removes t 's drawback by the filtering material (tube or sleeve) not being stretched during the working, but left loose. The air-current fiowin through the material spreads the fabric in ight curves or domes and smooths it out in spite of its looseness.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is aside elevaof which the following is a specifica tion, partly in section, of tubular filter in ac-- and Fig. 2 is a throughout both views, a designates a p urality of tubular filters, one arranged above the other and suitabl connected together. Said filters a ma be of any preferred material As shown in t e drawings, two sets'of filters are employed, and they are inclosed in a case h. The lower end of each set of filtersis' secured in any suitable manner to near the lower end of the case h, while the u per end of each set of filters has connected t ereto a coverf. The covers are suspended b means of a rod g, the latter eingsubstantia y T-shaped and has the ends of the lower terminal thereof suitably connected to the covers and its up r terminal attached to one o the arms 0 a double-arm lever b, the latter being pivotally connected intermediate its ends exteriorly of cam member d is positioned in operative relation with respect to the other arm of the lever b, and the said rotating cam memberd is adapted to engage the lever b to actuate it. The case h is'provided with an outlet for the exhaust, and said outlet is controlled through the medium of a cut-off valve e. To limit the movement of the said rod g, a stop '5, is' provided, the said stop t being carried by the rod 9 and is ada ted to encounter a support a on the case b (ihring the downward movement of the rod g, consequently arresting the movement of the said rod when the'latter is movin downwardly. When it is desired to clean t e filters, the air is shut off by means of the valve e in the ordinary manner. The covers f of the filters a are then lifted by the cam d, acting upon the rotating cams d and a two-armed lever 6 without causing a sudden and taut stretching. After the cam d has slipped from under the lever b the tubes or sleeves close or shut down under the action of their own or of the special Wei ht or under the action of the sprin This fa is arrested by a stop '5, connecte with the suspensionrod 9, which stop encounters a support 0, and
thereby produces so violent a shaking of the sleeve or tube that the dust adhering to the material dro s off.
I declare t at what I claim is- I In a device of the class described, the combination with a case, two sets of tubular filters arranged therein, one terminal of each set of filters being secured to the case, and covers secured to the other terminal of each set of filters, of means for gradually stretching and suddenly releasing the filters, said means consisting of a suspension-rod connected to the said covers, a double-arm lever pivotally connected intermediate its ends to the exterior of the-case and having one arm thereof attached to said suspension-rod, and
a rotatable cam member arranged'adjacent to the other arm of said lever and adapted to actuate the latter at intervals, said cam member being normally free from engagement with the said lever until brought into position to contact therewith during its rota movement. P1 1 testimonywhereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
