To all whom it non/y concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ZVETINA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Thawing Attachments for Gas-Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is the produc tion of an improved device for facilitating the introduction of alcohol into gas-pipes to melt ice that has formed in said pipes.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical central section through a device embodying the features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a fragmental sectional view on dotted line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
In the production of a device of the character mentioned I provide a cup 1 of substantially ovate form having at its lower and smaller end a valve-casing 2 and a screwthreaded socket 3, formed integral with the cup, by means of which socket said cup may be attached to a gas-pipe a at any convenient or suitable point in the system. A duct 4 connects the interior of the cup with said socket. This duct is opened and closed by means of a tapered valve-plug 5, seated within a correspondingly-tapered chamber 6 in the valve-casing 2. The valveplug 5 has an opening 7 extending therethrough adapted to register with the duct 4. In one end of the valve-plug 5 is formed a recess 8 of any desirable non-circular form to receive a correspondingly-shaped projection 9, formed on the end of a key 10 for turning the valveplug. A pin 11, fixed in said valve-plug and adapted to engage either of two shoulders 12, formed upon one end of the valve-casing 2, limits the movements of said valve-plug.
Alcohol may be introduced into the cup 1 through an opening 13 in the upper end of said cup, said opening being normally closed by means of a screw-plug 14. Upon establishing communication between the cup 1 of the invention, wherefore I desire to have it understood that I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details herein set forth.
I claim as my invention- 1. Ina thawing attachment for gas-pipes, in combination, a cup for containing the thawing liquid, said cup having a securingsocket formed integral therewith; a valve for controlling the outlet from said cup, said cup having a filling-opening in its upper portion; a plug for closing said filling-opening; a nipple in the upper portion of said cup for applying air-pressure to the interior of said cup and means for closing said nipple.
2. In a thawing'attachment for gas-pipes,
in combination, a cup for containing the thawing liquid, said cup having a valve-casing and a securing-socket formed integral therewith, said cup having a fillin -opening in its upper portion; a rotatable va ve member in said valve-casing for controlling the outlet from said cup; a projection on said valve member adapted to engage a shoulder on said valve-casing for limiting the rotation of said valve member; a screw-plug for closing the filling-opening in said cup; a nipple in the upper portion of said cup for applying air-pressure to the interior of said cup; and a screw-cap for closing said ni ple.
