MACHINE FOR Application filed April 6, 1905. Serial No. 254,201.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J DEL GE Born a citizen of the United States, residing at Richwood, in the county of Nicholas and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Machines for Straightening Band-Saw Blades; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in machines for straightening the blades of band-saws.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character by which the twists, bends, or dish may be removed from bandsaw blades.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which will be simple, strong, and durable in construction, efficient in use, and well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed, means being provided whereby the main straightening-roller may be adjusted and locked in its adjusted position.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangeas will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of the machine. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, parts being shown in section to more clearly illustrate the construction thereof. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of one end of the machine, and Fig. 4 is a vertical transverse sectional view on the line 1 4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a vertical sectional view showing my improved saw-stretching device in operation in connection with a stretchingmachine of ordinary form, the stretchingmachine being indicated diagrammatically.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the frame, which consists of end plates 2, which are connected together at their lower sides and adjacent to their front edges by means of a bed-plate or bar 3. In each of the end plates 2 is formed a circular aperture 4. In each of said apertures is mounted a disk 5, said disks being provided on their inner edges with an annular series of spur gear-teeth 6. Each of the disks 5 is providedwith an eccentrically-arranged threaded aperture 7, in each of which is screwed a threaded plug 8. Said plugs are provided on their outer ends with integrally-formed heads Specification of Letters Patent.

or nuts 9 and on their inner ends with bearing-surfaces on cones 10. On the plugs 8, between the heads 9 and the adjacent outer sides of the end plates 2, are arranged j am-nuts 12, whereby said plugs-may be held in their adjusted ositions.
J ournal d on the cone-bearings 10 of the plugs 8 is a steel roller 13, said roller being preferably of hollow construction, and in each end thereof are screwed or otherwise secured bearing-cups 14:, between which and the cone bearing-surfaces 10 is arranged a series of bearing-balls 15, whereby said roller has a ball-bearing engagement with the plugs 8.
Riveted or otherwise secured to the bedplate 3 adjacent to each of the end plates 2 are bearing-blocks 17, on which are formed. inwardly-projecting apertured bearing-lugs 18, in which is journaled a cylindrical rod 19. On the ends of the rod 19, between the bearing-lugs 18 and the inner sides of the adjacent end plates, are fixedly mounted'spur gear pinions 20, which mesh with the gear-teeth 6 on the periphery of the disk 5.
Fixed to the outer side of one of the disks 5 is a shifting lever 21, said lever being provided with an adjustably-mounted pawl 22. This pawl is preferably provided with bolts or rivets 23, which pass through slots or elongated apertures 24, whereby the pawl is adjustably or slidably connected to said lever and by means of which the lower ends of the awl may be engaged with and disengaged from the teeth of the segmental rack 25, formed on the edge of the adjacent end plate 2, whereby said lever may be held in its adjusted position.
The roller 13 may be raised or lowered by turning the lever 21, the action being as follows: When the said lever is turned, it turns the disk 5, to which it is connected in its bearing. Such motion of the lever-disk is imarted to the adjacent gear-pinion 20 and through the latter to the rod 19 and the other pinion on the opposite end thereof and from said pinion to the disk 5 at the opposite end of the attachment, thus causing said disk to turn with the lever-disk. Secured to the bedplate 3 are laterally-projecting brackets 26, in which are arranged thumb-screws 27, whereby the machine may be clamped on the front side of a band-saw stretching and tensioning machine of that class in which there are a pair of intergeared rollers provided with means for adjusting them toward and from each other and between which rollers the band-saw is passed, the arrangement of my improved attachment on the front sideof the machine" bringing the roller 13 near-the said pair of rollers and causing it to bear under 5 the band-saw 'Byraising or lowering'th roller 13 that part of the band-saw between said roller and the'pair of stretching and"ten-'- sioning rollers may be raised orloweredyand 1 hence bent, so as to vary the angle at which rollers in removing the 1 dish, bends; and-Ithe like'irregwlarities from the saw. 5
