i Speccation of Letters Patent.l
Application filed-November 2l, 1905. Serial No. 288.397.
, fication.
My invention has reference to bottles; and it has for one 4of its objects to provide a nursing-bottle embodying such a construction that it is adapted to be taken apart and eX- peditiously and thoroughly cleansed.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a nursing-bottle in which a jacket is employed to hold the parts of the bottle together and is made to serve the additional functions of a protective casing and a receptacle to receive any leakage that may take,A
place from the bottle` Other advantageous features of the invention will be fully appreciated from the follow-l ing description and claims, when the same are taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming part' of this specification, in whichl Figure l -is an elevation of the bottle constituting the present and preferred embodiment of my invention as the same appears with its parts properly assembled and ready for use. Fig. 2 is a view, partly in elevation and partly in vertical section, of the bottle.
Similar letters designate corresponding parts in both views of the drawings, referring to Which- A is the body of my novel bottle. The said body ispreferably' made of glass because of the facility with which such material can be thoroughly' cleansed, and it comprises an intermediate section a, open at itsflower and upper ends, a base section or plug b, having a reduced portion c removably arranged in the lower end of the intermediate section a, which is tubular throughout its length, and an upper tubular section d, which is provided with a lower reduced portion e, adapted t0 take into the upper end of the intermediate section, and a shoulder f, arranged to bear ,on said up er end of the intermediate section. The rerfiiced portion of the lower section b and the reduced portion e of the upper section d are preferably ta ered, as are also the portions of the interme iate section in which said reduced portions are removably arranged, this with a view of permittin of the lower and u per sections being we ged in the interme iate section, so as to prevent leakage from the interior oflthe body. In addition to the reduced portion e and the shoulder f the upper section d of the body' A is preferably provided with the. usual neck, terminating'at its upper end ina bead and adapted for the application of an ordinary nursing-nipple.
B is the acket of my novel bottle, which is preferably', though not necessarily, made of sheet metal. The `said jacket Acomprises a -lower section gin the form of ra receptacle and an upper tubular. lsection h. This latter is detachably connected to the lower section, preferably through the medium of screwthreads i, and at its upper end it has an inturned flange or taper portion c, which receives and rests over the upper section d of body A, after the manner best shown in Fig. 2.
When the parts of my novel bottle are assembled, as shown in Fig. 2, the jacket B serves to hold the lower and upper sections of the body A tightly in the intermediate section thereof and practically prevents leakage of milk or other substance from the interior of the body. Should such leakage take place, however, the milk will obviously' be caught and retained in the jacket. The said jacket-B also serves to retain heat in the milk, and in the event of the bottle falling or being thrown from a crib, baby-carriage, or the like it greatly lessens the liability of theI fragile body A being broken.
While the jacket B serves to hold the sections of the body A together, as stated, it will be 'observed that when it is desired to cleanse the bottle the sections of the jacket may be readily disconnected and removed from the body A. It will also be observed that subsequent to the removal of the jacket B the sections of the body A may be separated and each may be very quickly and thoroughly discharged of sediment and cleansed.
To assemble the parts of the bottle and make the same ready for use, it is simply necessary to place the lower and u per sections` of the body A in the interme 'ate sec- Pate'nted Sept. 18, 1906 n tion thereof, and then arrange the lower end n' of the body in the lower jacket-section g and place the upper jacket-section h over the body A and screw it into engagement with the said lower section g, since vwhen this is done the lower and upper sections of the body A will be tightly forced and held in the intermediate section thereof.
It will be gathered from the foregoing that IIO notwithstanding the practical advantages l which my improved bottle possesses over the ordinary bottle the same is simple in construction and is adapted to be sold with prot Jfor a small price.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1. In a bottle, the combination with a body com. rising an intermediate tubular section an lower and upper separable sections havin taper reduced portions seated in the ends 0 the intermediate section; of a jacket comprising a lower section in the form of a receptacle receiving the lower end of the body, and an upper .section detachably connected to the lower section and having an upper inturned flange resting over and holding the upper section of the body.
2. In a bottle, the combination with a zo bodylcom rising an intermediate tubular section an lower and upper separable sections having taper reduced portions seated in the ends of the intermediate section; of a jacket comprising a lower section in the form of a receptacle receiving the lower end of the body, and y an upper section connected by screw-threads to the lower section and having an upper inturned flange resting over and holding the upper section of the body.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto'set my hand in presence of nesses.
v LEE' ANDERSON.
