UNITED STATES MADISON T. HELMS, OF NOBLESVILLE, INDIANA.
REGISTER FOR POOL-FRAMES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 18,
Application filed May 4,1905. Serial No. 258,915.
To (Ml whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAnIsoN T. HELMs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Noblesville, in the county of Hamilton and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Register for Pool-Frames, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to pool-frames, and has for its object to provide a registering attachment which can be attached to any poolframe in use.
The object of my invention is to provide a frame with a registering device attached that will render it practically impossible to make use of the same in. assembling the balls ready for a game without registering the same, which will be a safeguard for the proprietor against any dishonesty on the part of the players or his employees.
My invention consists in the novel con struction and combination of parts, hereinafter more fully described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a top view of the frame with the register attached. Fig. 2 is a top view of the register udth the cover removed. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the register with the end removed, showing the clapper broken away, partly in section. Fig. 4 is a detail view of part of the shaft and lever.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the frame or angle used in connection with a pool-table which is of the ordinary construction, to which is attached the register B, which consists of the casing 0, having a hinged top C, provided with an opening C and a removable side C the casing being provided with outwardly-extending flanges C having openings so that it can be secured to the frame.
l\1[ountedv in the casing on the stud C is a registering-disk D, provided with teeth D, and having reference-numerals from O to 20 arranged on its face opposite the teeth.
Slidably mounted in the casing is a shaft E, having a flattened portion E, provided with a slot E and a spring member E, Which engages the teeth D of the disk when the shaft is pushed in. A coil-spring E surrounds the shaft, which throws the shaft out after it has been pushed in and is held up against the angleiron F by a pin E in which one end. of the shaft slides, the other end of the shaft projecting through an opening in the side C and through the frame and is provided with a button at its end adapted to be engaged by the ball when placed in the frame. To prevent the disk from being turned backward by the spring members a after it has turned one numeral, I provide a spring-pawl G, secured to the side of the easing, which engages the teeth on the disk and holds it firmly against any backward movement.
Fulcrumed in the lip H in the casing is a lever I, one end being provided with a slot I and is pivotally secured in the slot E of the shaft E, the other end projecting out through the side of the casing, by which the shaft may be moved to register a game. To notify the proprietor that the frame has been used, I provide the register with a bell K and a spring-clapper L, secured to the removable side, the end of the Cl:t]7]')0l engaging the teeth D of the disk D, and. the bell is struck by the same every time a game is registered.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination with a frame for racking pool-balls, of a casing secured to the frame, a registering-disk mounted in the casing provided with outwardly-projecting pins, a spring-actuated shaft mounted in said casing and extending out into the frame and provided with a button on its ends, a springarm carried by said shaft adapted to engage the pins of the disk, a lever pivotally connected to said shaft, a spring-arm secured in the casing adapted to engage the pins of the disk, and a springj-clapymr operated by the pins on the disk and adapted to strike a bell mounted in the casing for the purpose described.
The combination with. a frame for rack ing pool-balls, of a casing secured to the frame, a toothed disk mounted in the casing, a spring-actuated shaft mounted in the cas ing and extending out through the frame, a spring-arm secured to the shaft adapted to engage the teeth on the disk, a spring-clapper adapted to engage the teeth of the disk and an operating-lever connected to said shaft, for the purpose described.
The combination with a frame for racking pool-balls, of a casing provided with outwardly-projecting flanges secured to said frame, a register-disk mounted in the easing and provided with outwardly-projecting pins, an angle-Hon secured in said casing, provlded with an opening, a spring-actuated shaft mounted in said opening and extending engage the pins of the disk and a s ringout into the frame, and provided with a butclapper operated by the pins on the dis and I0 ton on its end, a slot formed in said shaft, a adapted to strike a bell in the casing, for the lever provided with an elongated slot at its purpose described.
5 end, pivoted in said slot, a spring arm car'- MADISON T. HELMS.
