I also rovide a special arrangement for holdin t estvlus to the reproducer, and to that en I employ a bracket O, which is constructed of a single piece of metal bent -to provide a tubular member O', from which extend arms O, b f which the bracket is sevcured to the repro ucer. A spring-arm Of* is held in a port1on of the tubular member of the bracket and has its outer end proj eeting through an opening therein, which end is bent to provide a spring-hook 0*, which encircles the stylus when the latter is placed in the remainin tubular ortion of the bracket, and throng the ten ency of the hooked end to ring out of alinement with the tubular portlon of the bracket the stylus Will be firmly clamped in position. The rear end of the spring-arm O3 is bent inwardly and has its extreme end bent into circular form as shown a screw or rivet, by Whie the arm is firmly held to the diaphragm of the rcproducer. In practice I propose to make the reproducer .With an elbow tubular section L', which acffords ready attachment for the rubber tube carried by the horn.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I rovde an exceedingly ohea sim le, and `ghly efficient device by W `ch t e ordiof which is passed nary cylinder-operating mechanism may he utilized for operating a dislerccord. lt mayl be stated, however, that when my invention is in o eration the cylinder l'or supporting the cy indrioal records is operated, lnlt of course the reproducer and stylus are held from contact therewith; but should it be dcsired to use both records simultaneously the regulating mechanism mayA be readily adjusted so that both rei-.orda will be operated at the' same speed; but of course when this is done a Separate horn will be conneit ed to the reproducer operating: upon the cylindrical record..
lt will thus be eeen that I provide a very useful construction, and a further detail description of the operation of thc n'iaehine is deemed unnecessary, as it will readily ap* pear to those experienced in o )erating such machines; but it may be added, however, that either record may he operated independently and that the operation of either will not affect or impair the operation of the other.
Havin thus full)f described my invention, what I c aim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is4 I In a phonograph, a base-plate, up er and lower brackets secured to opposite aces of the base-plate, a shalt extending through the base-plate and journaled in the brackets, means for' rotating` the shaft, and a -diskholding plate carried by the shaft above the upper bracket.
