l Glenn 1. An einer' ency car-brake consisting of a swinging bre e-block mounted below the body ofthe car and having two eccentric portions, of which one is capable, when the' dcvice is in action, of contacting with the road hed and the other with the beam on the carrame.
y 2. An emer ency car-brake consisting of a yswinging bra e-biock mounted below'the -body of the car, and having, below, an eccentric face for contact with the road-bed and above, an eccentric locking-face for Contact. with a beam on the csr-frame.
3. The combination of Swingin f brakeblocks at the front and rear ends ci the ear, with means for swinging those at one end of the cer into operative position by movement of reverse direction from that imparted to those at the opposite end ofthe car the parts being so arranged that the ap lication of the brake-blocks at one end of tllie car tends to apply those at the other end thereof.
4. 'The combination of Swingin brakeblooks at the front and rear ends o the car, with means for swinging the same into contact with the roadway, said blocks being constructed each with two eccentric portions so disposed that contact of one portion with the roadway will cause the other portion to engage the car and will tend to continue the movement' of the blocks.
5. The combination of swinging brakeblocks, a transverse shaft supporting said blocks Bo as to permit of their being turned into engagement with thc man ay :n.l with 5o the cur, a longitudinal shaft having operative connection with said transverse shaft, and means for im mrting a partial turn to said longitudinal s nilt.
1 Y. G. ihe combination of swmging brake- 55 blocks, c crank-shaftcarrying the same, e. longitudinal shaft also having a crank, .and a. link .connectin f sind crank with the crank of the brake-bloc s.
T. 'lhe combination of swinging brake- 6o blocks, a c ran k-shaft cerryinrf the same, a lon git udinal shaft having a cran ,and alink connei-ting said crunk with the crank of the broke-blocks, both cranks being elongated.
8. The combinationof swinging brake-.65
blocks, a crank-shaft carrying the same, a. lon gitudinal shaft having a crank, and s. link connecting said crank with the crank-shaft of the brakeblocks, said link having rollers for` engaging the cranks. A 7o 9. The combination of a longitudinal brakeoperziting shaft on the under side'of the car, and gearing for operating the same, one of the wheels of said gearing having a project ing stirrup for bein acte partial turn by the oot.
10. T he combination of a longitudinal brakeopcrating shaft on the under side of the ear, and glearing for o creating the same, one of the w projecting stirrup for bein acted upon by the foot and a lever for han action. Y
11. The combination of' .a longitudinal brake-operating shaft on the under side of the car, and rcaring for o eratingthe same,4 85
one of the w reels of sai gearing having n. projecting stirrup for being acted upon by the foot, and a lever for hand action, said lever being loosely mounted on the shaft of the gear-wheel and bein whereby it can be loc ed to said wheel.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. l
