FAUCET;
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. as, 190e.
Application iled February 5, 1906. Serial No. 299./L99.
iro a/ZZ whom it 'ntfbyconcernh- Be it known that I, JOHANN BAPTIST HAP?, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at Zrich, Switzerland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Faucets, of which the following is a specification.
The "present invention relates to an irnproved cock or faucet for drawing liquids of the type in which a tube connected to the valve-body serves at the same time as discharge-tube and is vertically displaced together with the valve-body. Inasmuch as in such cocks there will always be found leakage trickling down the outside. of the tube carrying the valve-body, it has been proposed to surround the discharge-tube for the purpose of combining again this waste liquid with the main current by a second tube and to thus connect it, that upon this outer tube being rotated the discharge-tube is vertically displaced.
The subject of the present invention is an improvement in faucets of this type in which the outer tube is done away with and the waste liquid or leakage is carried back directly into the sole discharge-tube.
In order to make the invention more readily understood, I have illustrated it on the accompanying` sheet of drawings, Figure I of which represents a vertical sectional view, and Fig. 2 a plan view, of the improved faucet.
The faucet essentially consists of a valvecasing e with a conical valve-seat a', a tube t, threading into the casing a, provided with a valve-body d, of preferably elastic material-for instance, rubberand easily removably secured to the head-piece c, and a socket e, secured to the valve-casing in suitable manner-for instance, by means of a screw ffand contracted below a thickened or fianged portion b3 of the tube b, as clearly shown in Fig. l.
In the upper part of the tube b there are provided the passages l2 and below the threaded portion and extending inwardly through the flange b3 passages b2. To the lower end of the tube l) there is secured the nozzle or spout g with handles gT The liquid enters through opening a passes through the passages 1) into the tube b, and. out through nozzle g. The use of the ordinary stufiing-box is avoided in this construction. The water leaking through the thread is carried back into the Inain current through the passages b2. The socket c prevents the tube h from being entirely unscrewed. For cleaning or repairing purposes the socket e is unfastened, when the tube I) may be easily removed.-
, It is obvious that the valve-body d may be unelastic and in one with the tube c. It may also be of any other desirable form-for instance, spherical or flattened, when the seat portion must of course have a corresponding shape.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of the said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is In a faucet for drawing liquids, the combination of a casing, a valve-seat therein, an internal thread in said casing, a dischargetube, an external thread thereon coperating with said internal casing-thread, a valvebody forming the upper end of said tube, a flanged portion below the thread portion of said tube, said tube having below said valvebody, passages for the main current and below the thread portion andv extending inwardly through the flange portion, passages for the leakage, an annular socket removably secured to said lvalve-casing and cooperating with the flanged portion of the said dischargetube, and means for rotating said dischargetube, the parts being constructed, arranged and cooperating substantially as and for the' purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHANN BAPTIST HAPI).
