IMPROVEMENT IN COOKING-STOVBS.
mit .ttrmle teftmr tu `in time Estima @that mit mating @ttt n t its sami T0 ALL PERSONS TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS MAY C OME:l
Be it known that I, ERASrUS D. WESTON, of Taunton, in thecounty of Bristol,'and .State of Massachusetts,v I have invented a new and usefulmprovement in Cooking-Stoves; and do hereby declare the same .to be fully 1 4described in the'following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which i Figure l is a longitudinal section of 'a stove provided with my' invention.
`Figure 2 is an under side view of its top plate and theV bottom of the air-Hue, the latter being shown as madel in sections, having their joints provided with iianges, and arranged both in vlongitudinal and transverse directions relatively to the top plate. v l
i Figure 3 is a transversesectionof the top plate and airiue, such section being taken between the boiler receiving-holes.
Figure 4 is another such.- transverse section, it being taken through the vertical end iianges of the airtiue platea I i Figure 5 is a vertical section taken `tl'irough'one sideof the' stove, oi: through'r one of its jambs. The nature of my invention consists in the constructiono'f'the bottom of the'air-Hue'in sections, with joints arranged transversely and longitudinally of the top plate, and provided with overlapping flanges, in order that the lateraland longitudinal expansion of the top plate of thestove may freely take place, without any danger of being so bound by the bottom plate or plates of the air-Hue as to be crackedor warped. My improvement also' avoidsjthe danger of cracking the bottom plate ofthe air-flue.
The nature of myA invention further co'nsists in the combination of end iianges with the air-flue protectionplates, when they are extended partially across the space underneatiithe top plate, such end flanges being to extend up to the top'plate, and, in connection therewith, extending the jambs of the stove up against the said end anges,'andto`the top plate, as well as against the protection-plates, and projecting th-e bottom and the top platebeyond the jambs and end plates ofthe body of' the stove; also, in constructing the said end iianges with notches or openings through them, to allow of the exit of air from the air-space into the flue, overv the oven of the stove.
In the drawings, 'A denotes the body of the stove, and B the top plate, the latter beingprovided with boileropenings, a a, and a circumscribing iiange, b. The'said flange is extended downward from the plate-in manner as represented in the drawings, and is rebated, to receive the outer .edges of a series of sectional plates, ed e f Each of the sectional plates, at one-or each end of it, is furnished with alange, L, to extend from it, and overlap the next adjacent sectional plate, so as to' break the joint between the two, such joints and flanges being arranged in manner as represented. l i
' The sectional plates are also provided with other langes,.z, to extend Ifrom' them to the top plate, and' against and inside of the anges b, which circumscribe the boiler-openinvs, and project down from the top platefI Furthermore, the two front sectional plates have air-holes, Z, made through them, where they projectbeyond the front vertical end of the stove-body. The two lateral inner sectional plates Ahave ianges, m m, extended from them up to thetop plate, and against its circuinscribing ange, such danges m m being provided with notches or air-exit passages, as shown at o o. l v
Flanges p p'extend. from the lower lsurfaces of the top plate aud the sectional plates, and against the jambs or body ot' the stove, such jambs or body being extended in its rear, asshown at r s, up to the top plate, and against the end anges m m. v v
The above-described arrangement of thesectional plates, the end flanges m m, and the jambs, as set forth, saves the necessity and cost of extending the sectional plates back beyond the middle ofthe rear boiler-opening. 'I am aware that it is not new to arrange an air-flue underneath and against the top plate oi' a stove, and directly over the main smoke-ue, leading from the fireplace over the top of the oven; consequently, I make noel-aim thereto. v E i I What I claim is i The bottom plate of the air-flue, as made of the ve sections c d efg, having-their joints arranged transversely and longitudinally of the top plate, and provided with overlapping flanges, z, as described, in order that the lateral and longitudinal expansion of the top plate may freely take place.
' `I also claim, when the series of' partition-plates of the air-flue is extended partially acrossr the space under neath the top-plate, the combination of' the end anges m lm with such plates, and the extension of the jambs and end plates of the stove-body up against the said flanges, the partition and top plates, and these latter (ivyith the partition and top plates) beyond the jambs and end plates or body ofthe stove, in manner as represented.
I also claim the said end flanges m m, as constructed with notches o1' openings o o, for the exit of air` from the air-flue into the smokeue over the oven.
. i ERASTUS l). WESTON.
