No. 829,090. I Specification of Letters Patent. Patented. Aug. 21, 1906.
Application filed March 1 1906. Serial No. 303,691. I
T'0 (LU wlwmit may concern: v 4
Be it known that I, RICHARD E. SAGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Paw Paw, in the county of Van Buren and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sign-Boards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in sign-boards.
out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is clearly illustrated in theaccompanying drawings, forming a part-0f this specification, in which Figure 1 is a'front view of my improved sign-board. The si n-cards are shown in blank, the sign-board'illustrated being divided into For sale and Wanted columns, with sign-cards in position having. those words thereon.- Fig. 2 is a detail section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1, showing the form of the card-holding tongues 11. Fig. 3 is a detail section on a line corresponding to line 3 3 of Fig. 1, showing the form of card-stops a. F
In the drawings the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little ar rows at the ends of the section-lines, and similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, the body of my improved sign-board is formed of a piece of sheet metal. The sides are turned outwardly into flanges A for holding the cards in place and also to add to the rigidity of the board. The top and bottom edges are turned into inturned flanges A, which. add to the strength of the board and also coact in holding the to and bottom cards, as will be pointed out. plurality of hook-like card-holding tongues a are punched up from the body of the board. These are arranged oppositel the tongues for engaging adjacent edges 0 the sign-cards being preferably in alinement, thereby utilizing practically all of the surface of the board for displaycards. In the structure illustrated I provide a double series of card-holding tongues, so that two columns of matter may be displayed. End stops, as a, are provided for the cards, and these stops in the double-column structure illustrated are located between the columns, so that they serve for both, the cards being introduced or inserted in the holders from the outside. In
. card designating articles for sale in one column and in the other a card for articles wanted. The top and bottom flanges A are arranged to coact with the top and bottom series of card-holding tongues for holding display-cards, preferably arranging in the top holder a card B, giving the name of the proprietor. This bill-board is especially deque'nt changing of the articles advertised is required. The cards B shown are intended for item-cards. nouncement of any article for sale orwanted can be displayed and changed as conditions require.
though, of course, itmay be utilized as desired.
It is evident from .improved sign-board is very economical to produce and that it isvery durable. If desired, the announcement or sign cards may be printed on tin or similar material. Itis evident that'by the arrangement described I utilize practically all of the face of the billboard, and at the same time' the announcement-cards are held so that they may be by inserting or removing.
Having thus described my invention, what ters Patent, is I 1. In a sign-board, the combination 'of abody portion formed of sheet metal, havin inturned flanges at its top and bottom an outturned fianges'at its sides; oppositelyarranged hook-like card-holding tongues formed by punching up portions of said body, the tongues 'for engaging theadja'e'ent edges of the cards bein arranged in alinement, said top and bottom I ranged to coact with the top andbottom card-holding tongues to form card-holders; cards adapted to be slipped under said the structure illustrated I. have inserted asigned for the use of farmers, where the fre.

'2, In {ii sigmboard, the combination of a body portion formed of sheet metal, having inturned flanges at its top and bottom and outturned flanges at its sides; oppositelyarranged hook -l1ke card -ho'lding tongues formed by punching up portions of said body, the tongues for engaging the adjacent edges of the cards bein arranged in alinement, saidtop and bottom anges of said body being arran ed to coact with the top and bottom car -holding tongues to form cardholders; and cards adapted to be slipped under said tongues, for the purpose specified.
body; cards adapted to be slipped under said tongues; and end sto s for said cards formed bypunching up lugs om said body; for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal inthe presence of two w1tnesses.
