To all whom it mwy concern.-

Be it known that I, CHESTER H. CARNES, a citizen of the United States, 'residing at Trinidad, in the county of Las Animas and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeglass Guards, of which the following is a specification.

My invention contemplates certain new and useful improvements in guards for eyeglasses; and theprimary object of the invention is to provide an im roved device of this character which will a mit of a wide range of adjustability, which is a desideratum in the opticians and oculists profession, and which will be securely held in its different adjusted positions without danger of becoming loose and without any liability of the position becoming accidentally changed.

My invention consists, essentially, of an eyeglass-guard comprising a longitudinallyslotted nose piece or plate preferably channeled to receive the rubber, cork, or similar pad, as the case may be, the surface adjacent a 5 the slot'being corrugated, and an attaching arm or shan designed for attachment to a stud-box on the eyeglass and axially adjustable at one end on a bolt, the head of which is arranged for engagement with the corru- 0 gated surface of'the nose-piece, while the shank thereof extends through the slot and is des' ned to receive-*the clamping members for olding the attaching-arm at different angular positions with respect to the nose- 5 piece. The invention also 'comprehends, broadly, a device of this character embodying in combination a longitudinally-slotted nose-piece. and an attaching arm longitudinally and I .0 axially adjustable in the slot of the nosepiece.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the lenses of a pair of eyeglasses provided with the improvements of my 1nvention. 2 designates the stud-boxes there- 'of, and 3 designates the bridge or spring.

My improved guard comprises a nosepiece 4, which is preferably channele or provided with inturned or beveled side edges 5 for the reception and retention of the cork, rubber, or similar pad 6. In the present instance the nose-piece 4 is in the form of a rectangular plate, and it is provided with a longitudinal slot 7. On its inner or channeled side the nose piece or plate 4 is provided wlth one or more rows or series of transverse corrugations 8, the same preferably boun 1I1 both sides of the slot 7. A bolt 9 is pro'v1de with a head 10, designed to fit within a longetudinally extending recess 11 in the corrugated side of the plate 4 and, as shown, is therein owing to the fact that the head an .recess are correspondingly shaped. In the resent embodiment the head is shown as, eing rectangular or with flat side edges; but, as illustrated in Fig.6, it may be curved to correspond to the general shape of the plate 4" when the latter is curved so as to meet the different requirements for differently formed nose pieces or guards.
