To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES M. HOLLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Deppe, in the county of Onslow and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Rein-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to rein-supporters, and has for an object to provide a device of the class embodying new and improved features of convenience, adaptability, simplicity, and efliciency.

A further object of the invention is to provide a rein-holder of improved form embodying means for attachment to a harness upon the rump 0f the horse and to hold the reins above and out of contact with the tail.

With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportions, size, and minor details may be made without departing from the s irit or sacrificing any of the advantages of t is invention.

In its preferred embodiment the improved rein-holder forming the subject-matter of this a plication is composed of a single piece of reel ient wire or other like material bent at and 11 to form a bridge-piece 12 of the predetermined length. At a point which will form the legs of the uprights of the ap proved length the wire is bent upon itself to orm the loops 18 and 14 and after extending above the bridge to the approved height is again bent upon itself, as at 15 and 16, thus completing t e uprights.

T e wire follows back along the uprights to the bridge, where it is coiled about the uprights and bridge, as at 17 and 18, and extends to form the arms 19 and 20, dis osed in a plane a proximately perpendicu ar to the general plane of the uprights and bridge.

At their extremities the arms are bent downwardly, as at 21 and 22, and then curved upwardly, with the ends 23 and 24 extending above the line of the arms and defining hooks open upon their upper sides.

The loops 13 and 14 are positioned and proportioned to engage over the crupperbuckles 25 and 26, and the hooks engage loops 27 and 28 upon the hip-strap 29, holding the uprights in a substantially vertical position and the bridge in a substantially horizontal position, the reins resting upon the bridge and between the uprights, although it will be obvious that the reins may be inserted through the loops 15 and 16, if found necessary or preferred.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A rein-supporter comprising spaced uprights each consisting of a plurality of metal strands provided at their lower ends with laterally-extending loops for attachment to the crupper of a harness, one of the strands of each upright being extended laterally to form a horizontally-disposed arm terminating in an attaching-hook and the adjacent strand of each upright being united to form a connecting-bridge disposed at the juncture of the arms and uprights.

2. A rein-supporter comprising spaced u rights each formed of a single piece of resi ient wire bent to form spaced uprights consisting of a plurality of strands twisted together to produce oppositely-disposed loops, the wire forming one of the strands of each upright being united to form a connectingbridge and the opposite strand of each upright being twisted around the connectingbridge to form a horizontally-disposed arm terminating in an attaching-hook.
