CUT-OUT VALVE FOR FLUlD-CONIPRESSORS.
:atenten July 24, 1906.
Original epplioatinn filed September 9, 1899, Serial No. 729,967.' Divided and this application Bleil Bauernhof 11, i899. Serial se. rasees.
To all whom it may connerie:
Beit known that l, NxELs ANToN Cenis; TENSEN, residing at Milwaukee, intheeonnty of Milwaukee and State of Wiseonsin, here invented a certain new and useiil"ut-irtV Valve for Fluid-Compressors, of which the following is e'specioetion, the within ep lieation being divisional of en application ed y me on September 9, 1899, Serial No. 729,957, for e High-Pressure Fluid-Compresser.
My invention pertains to fluid-compressors generally, and more particularly to e out-out valve therefor; and its object is to provide a valve of this character more espeoielly designed to he employed in connection with e. compressor for obtaining high pressures in which leaks through the euteout valve must be provided against. To devise a valveof this character and having these attributes is the object of the present invention.-
In the drawings, Figure 1 is e sectional elevation of s compressor, showing one for'rn oi' apparatus to which my invention ma he applied; Fig. 2, en enlarged sectional elevation of the out-out valve, and Fig. 3 e. section on line 3 of Fig. 2.
inasmuch es my present invention is restricted to the eut-out valve of a compressor, I will describe the parts ofthe compressor shown only in general terms, it heine' understoodlthat the compressor illustrated is simply oneV exeuipliiioation of e compressor that may be employed and that my eut-out. valve is to `he used and applied wherever ap plieeble to perform its functions.
T he compressor-oesinzer 1 has n cylinder 2, in which operates a. single-acting piston Si; The Cylinder has a. heck head or cover 4, oon-Y taining a discharge-port governdd hy a'disohergefvalve 5 and communiruting with the diseherge-pessego As `hown in the sompressor selected For illustreiion purposes only, the disoharyopassage loes 'not ooxh4 munieato dirortly u ith the usuel reservoir. but indirof-tly therewith through n cooling;-
Aooil 7, urrsuged in the uwer perf of' the wssng l sind vouimunis-ating with 1hr fliselmlggopensee-o (i, preieruhly hy ineens ol' the gow-onor-.k 5l. As shown, one ond ol' the onhouooil ohunihorls'olosml hy meuusol ormuo. :lille pleito or oovor 95 which haspussugvs ro|uml|- nloeling with hoth ends ol' she roll and wil l:
.thegroosoneek and with the possono luzuliog; to the reservoir,v which letter pus-suglls governed by the out-out velye now to be de 'The out-out valve comprises a easing 10,
which in the drawings is shown es connected to end forming a part of this rernovehle plate 9, which provides en excellent. construction end arrangement of the parts; but of course it will be understood that this valve-easing may be separate therefrom. The onlyY require ment is that suoli Casin f shell communicate both with the discharge-passage of the oompressor and with the connection Vleading to the reservoir. As shown, this easing eommunieates through a port or passage 11 with the delivery l end of the oooling-ooill which means that it communicates with the discharge from the compressor. The easing also communicates with a. pipe or passage 12, leading to the reservoir.
The casing 10 has an open end into which screws e hollow externally-screw-thresded sleeve 13, which carries the valve proper, 14, seating on s seat 15 when closed.` A central here in the reduced end- 16 of this sleeve rev oeives the valve-stein 17, which has e eireulsr 2groove i8, es well its the bore, so th et the valve nuev he held in place by a transverse pin 19.
n e high-pressure compressor more partieulerlv it is imperative that the out-outvalve, device he ell`eetuell \vr sesled effainst leakage whether the valve is open or closed, and' to attain this end the valve is oonstruoti ed as Shown in the drawings. The sleeve 13 luis u square or angular hole to receive the :angular end 2() of un operating-stem 21, heviog e handle 22. This operating-stein reciprorutes and rotates in un end oep or heed 23, sri-roving into the casing, and the end 2U has ai slight motion or movement horizontally in the sleeve und inde endont thereof. The stem luis screw-ihrem s 24, on which screws a lorhingduimlle 25, hearing against the cap Bil, so :is to reeipromite the stein 31 in one dil l l i l l i s l rvolion or the other through its seid slight independent movement. When suoli stein is ifm-iprocutml outwurcl hy means of the looking-hundir, un enlurgeuwnt or eollur .26 is mused to sont tightly against the inner end 27 ol' thil und cup. Consequentlyen); pres sure looking' into the (fhuiuhor in which the stem mul 2li situutvd is prevented from raping to the elmosphere. 'lheconstruction shown l-oostii otrs liolh u locking devise end u. soul l'or the uboot valve. lt is obvious that when the vulve 14 is sented hy turning IOO the handle it may be locked. in closed position iiy subscqucntl y turning the lockinghandle 2.5, so that the valve cannot be opened without l'irst unlocking it by rotating the handle 25. At the same time when the valve 14. was locked on its seat the rotation of the handle 25 caused the operating-stem 21 to be drawn outward, so that its collar 26 was caused to seat u on the seat 27, thereby securely sealing t ie entire valve device and preventing any leakage whatever. These cut-out valves are adapted to be used in oonnection with any compressor and are parti ouiarly useful in a con'ipressor having a plurah ity of cornpressor-cylinders and a plurality of delivery pipes or passages, so that one of the compressors may for any reason be out out of connection with the other or active compressors. The normal position of the valve114 is open, so as to permit free eonnnunication between the pipe or passage 11 and the pipe or passage 12, communicating with the reservoir.
Although I have described more or less precise forms and details ol construction, I do not intend to be understood asilimiting myself thereto, as I contemplate changes in form, the proportion of parts, and the substitution of equivalents as circumstances may Suggest or render'expedient and without de? parting from the spirit of my invention.
