Description

No. 326,250 PATENTED JULY 17, 1906'.
A.-HUOK.
SWITCH FOR TOY RAILWAY S. APPLICATION FILED D150. 26, 1905.
a dim. 60660125 J! 0% Z MZ/ 7 gt 7 I PATENT OFFICE.
ALBERT HUCK, OF NUREMBERG, GERMANY.
SWITCH FOR TOY RAILWAYS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 17, 1906.
Application filed December 20. 1905. Serial No. 292,576.
To all whom it may concern? Be it known that I, ALBERT HUcK, toy manufacturer, partner of the firm of Carl Bub, residing at N o. 48 Gostenhofer Hauptstrasse, Nuremberg, Bavaria, in the Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Switches for Toy Railways; and I do others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved switch for toy railways, and has for its object the provision of a switch adapted to be yieldin ly held in a normal position and positively t own in an opposite position in order to avoid the necessity of providing lever mechanism for throwing the switch in two positions.
According to my invention the switch is yieldingly held in a position to close the main track and open the switch-track, thereby providing for normally causing the car to traverse the switch-track and permitting cars to travel in an opposite direction upon the main track and free the switch without reversing the same, the said switch after the car has passed automatically returning to its normal position.
The invention will be more fully described in connection with the accompanying drawings and will be more particularly pointed out and ascertained in and by the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure l is a view in side elevation of a toy railway embodying the main features of my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
Like characters of reference designate similar parts throughout both figures of the drawings.
As shown, there is provided a sleeper f, upon which the rails a and b are mounted. The rails a are the main track, and the rails b are the switch-track. The end of one of the switch-rails b is provided with a switch tongue or point 0, w 'ch' latter is of flexible material and is adapted to be thrown into and out of engagement with the outermost rail a. The innermost rail (1 is also provided with a switch-tongue 0, connected by a flexible part h, and is adapted to be thrown into and out of engagement with switch-rail b.
hereby declare the fol lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable Each of said switch tongues or points is provided with a track portion and an integral supporting member in the form of a plate d. Said supporting members or plates (1 are connected and operated by a sliding switch-bar which extends beneath the rails and laterally thereof in a manner to be engaged by the operator. Said switch-tongues are normally held in the position shown in Fig. 2 to close the main track and open the switch-track by a spring g, which is fixed at one end and engages at its free end the rod e in the manner shown.
It will be seen from the foregoing that cars traveling to the right will engage the switchtongues and force them in a position to open the main track and mediately restore the switch-tongues to their normal position. It will also be obvious that cars traveling to the left will be guided into the switch-track automatically, it being obvious that if it is desired to guide cars going to the left upon the main, track the switch-points may be operated by the sliding bar 6. I
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. An improved toy railway comprising in combination a main track, a branch track, a switch therefor comprising switch-tongues, each tongue having a track portion 0 and an integral supporting-plate d pivotally connected with a sliding bar 6 connected with said integral supporting-plates d for throwing the switch in a position to close the branch track and open the main track, and a spring normally holding said tongues in a position to close said main track and open said branch track.
2. An improved toy railway comprising in combination a main track, a switch-track therefor comprising switch-tongues, each tongue having a track portion and a supporting member, and means connected wlth said supporting members to operate said switchtongues.
3. An improved toy railway comprising in combination a main track, a switch-track therefor comprising switch-tongues, each tongue having a track portion and a supporting member, and a sliding bar to which said supporting members are movably connected.
4. An improved toy railway comprising in combination a mam track, a switch-track that the spring g will im- In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT HUOK.
