-r-Bt -rknown that I, .lons Sonneries' SQHLOSSER afcitizen of the United States',
Ifnn'rnnY srrrrns mInfrniwr OFFICE,
SLlDlNG DOGR.
vtelt nty conce-rm and aresident of Chicago, in the county of and State' of Illinois, have invented a. new and improved Sliding Door, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact descript1onl-.f'.v.t31: l
'This invention relates to sliding doors such as used on stables and cars. The object o' the invention is to produce a sliding door which is hung yin s, simple manner, which may be readily opened and closed, and which will operate to' close the doorway tightly When the door occupies its closed osition;
The invention consists in the construction and, combination of arts more fully de scribed hereinafter en definitely set forth in the claims Reference is to be had to the accompany ing drawings, forming s port of this specificstion, in VWhich similar characters of reference indicate corresponding arts in ell the views.
the general form of s channeli Figure 1 is s front e evetion showing the door as applied in practice, certsin ports bebroken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thr'ou h the parts shown in Fig, 1 and like- Wise roken away. This View also repre sente in dotted outline a position which the door 'may assume. Fig. 3 is e horizontal section taken at one of the up er corners of the door and illustrating more ll'lxlly the manner of the door u on the door-treme.
Referring more artcu arly to the parts, l represents s. doorame provided in e well 2 such es s stable-well. In applying my invention to the lintel 3 of the door-frame I attach a. horizontelly-disposed hood 4. The construction of this hood is shown most clearlyV in Fig'. 2. Thd body of this hood presents the gutter of the said channel being dis ose inwardly and toward the fece ofthe sil of the door-frame. At the upper edge of the hood a llange 5 is formed, which is provided at suitable points with openin s 6, enabling sta les 7 to be driven therct ough and secure in the sill Below the flange 5 the materiel of th hood inclines outwardly, as indicated et so as to present en inc ined cheek. Beyond this cheek the materiel presents s, vertical cheek 9, Whicl. terminates below in en inwardlybent flange l0. At its lower ed e this flene 10 is nent upwardly and double upon itse so es to form a rail ll, which rail extends lonspeciaeation of Lef-.ters Patent.

pletciy from end to end thereof, so es to constltnte a track, ss will be readily understood.
Beyond the rail 1l the materiel ofthe hoodie bent downwardly, so as to form an ont- Wardly-inclined apron 12, which covers the upper edge of the door 13 in a manner which wil appear more folly hereinafter. The
so that no friction is devolo ed in moving the there is no ,attachment between the lower portion of the door and the door-frame, so

that if the door is struck on its inner side it can be readily pushed outwardly into some such position as that indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2. It will be observed that the action of gravity alone operates to hold the door against the lintel and against the doori'rame, and it should also Ibe evident that by reason of the recesses 23 the door tends to remain in its closed position.
While I have described the member 4V as a hood which o erates to hide the hangers from View, evident its principal unctionis to operate as e and support for the door in being slid, to its o en or closed position.
Having thus escribed my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. In combination, a door-frame, a guide attached thereto and adapted to swing outwardly from said door-frame, a door hung from. said guide, rollers cari'ed by said door,
rolling on said door-frame, and holding said i l door` out of contact with said frame, said door-frame having recesseslyin opposite l said rollers when said door is close whereby said door ma come against said door-fram 2. In com ination, a door-frame, a guid l consisting of a hood extending longitudinally y of said doorframe and attached thereto above, a track formed beneath said hood, a door having a hanger running on said track, rollers carried by said door, running on the i face of said door-frame and holdin said door lout of contact therewith, said oor-frame having recesses receiving said rollers to permit said door to come against said door- ,I frame. A a In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of I. two subscribing Witnesses.
