TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN HARLIN, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Lubricator; and I do hereby declare that the following is a. full, clear, and Aexact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which the drawing represents a sectional elevation of my improved luhricator.
The object of this invention is to provide a lubricator with an ordinary plug or cock in such manner that it can never leak, and consists in the application of packing at the large end of the plug, whereby the escape of any fluid, either oil or steam, is completely prevented.v
A, in the drawing, represents the cup of vn. lubricaor of ordinary or suitable construction. It is fitted in a suitable manner upon the shank or support B,`through which two vertical passages a and b are formed, one for steam, the other for oil.
The steam-passage is, by means of a pipe, e, connected to the upper part of the cup, as shown.
C is a conical plug inserted from the side into a corresponding socket provided in thc stem B, the plug having two apertures, LZ and e, which can be brought in line with the channels a b, as shown.
The plug C has a shoulder,f, formed at the end of its thick part, against which a ring, g, is placed, and its cylindrical outer extremity iits through a cap, D, which is screwed over the end of the socket provided for the reception of the plug, as shown in the drawing. v
Between the shoulderf and the ring g is interposed packing, 7L, of suitable kind. Y
The small end ofthe plug is embedded in the stem B in the manner shown. Neither oil nor steam can, by this arrangement, escape through the space surrounding the plug. v
I am aware that plugs have already been used on lubricators, but they have been found to be insufficient, as they would invariably leak.
In my lubricator, leakage is prevented even if the ground-plug should become worn.A
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- In combination with the plug C of the Iubricator, said plug having parallel apertures d e, the packing It, collar g, and screw-cap D,'arranged as described for the purpose specified.
' JOHN HARLIN.
