' Patented July 3, 190e.
Application ledugust 21. 1905. Serial No. 275,044.
.To a/ZZ whom, it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN A. YARGER, a citizen of the United Statesof America, residn at Nashua, in the county of Chickasaw an new and useful Improvements in Vehicle- Wheels, of which the following is a specificat'lon. l
This invention relates to vehiclewheels,
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invent1on consists in the details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed. In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanyin drawings, forming a part of this speci cation, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts in the several views, in which- Figure 1 is a view in elevation illustrating 4 a wheel embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectionalview of the hub, show- F1g. 3 1s a secing ragments ofthe spokes. tional vieW on the line :c a: of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, A indicates the felly, which may be of any ordinary construction, provided with av series of spokes B and a series of headed studs C intermediate vbetween the spokes. The inner ends .of the spokes are seated in a ring D, which'ring is rovided of the inflatable bag I. The inflatable bag y'is circular in cross-section and has a longitib' with iianges JE on either side, whic flanges are provided for the purpose of contacting with the hub (to be hereinafter described) to limit the movement of the ring. The hub comprises inits construction a' suitable borging F, having ,threaded ends to receive the nuts G, and a sectional hub H, fitted on the boxin the said sections of the' hubbeing internal y recessed to form a chamber for the reception dinal central tube J of suchy ,diameter as to armit the interposition of a metallic tube between the tube J andthe boxing. The
interposed tube K is orthe'purpose of prej Y tate of Iowa, have invented' certain venting .binding of sterminata bag 011 the boxing, and it permits the free rotation of the iniiatable bag on the boxing, even though the a section of the hub to the exterior, where a connection may be made to the source of airsupply.' In order to protect the inflatable bei?r against the action of the ring, the said 1n Aa jacket or cover M, which jacket is provided with a series of metallic -wearlates N, riveted on the jackets by means o the rivets O.
In assembling the parts the inner ends of the hub-sections are separateda sufficient distance toadmit the ring, and the said ring is sup orted in position by the cushion forme by the inflatable bag. The ring is free to move within a redetermined distance, according to the yie ding action of the cushion, though if the resistance of the cushion be insuh'cie'nt to sup ort the .hub the Aflanges E will contact wit the outer surfaces of the hub-sections 'and aid in su porting the hub. It is to be observed that tlie wear-plates are so positioned on the jacket as to extendA across the space between the hub-sections to insure the contacting of the ring Wear-plates.
As a further means for supporting the vetable bag is provided with a leather i hicle and affording a yieldingfaction I provide a series of eyes on the hub-section and 'secure therein the ends ofthe springs Q. The outer ends of thesprings are provided with turnbuekles S, which turnbuckles are rotatable on the studs C. By'means ofthe turnbuckles it will be observed the rim or felly may be made to run true and suitable adjustn ment may be had for varying the tension of threaded Shanks R, which are engaged by1 IOO Having fully described the invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Leti ters Patent, is-
