IRONING DEVICE.

My invention relates to ironing devices.

It has for its object to provide an ironing device particularly adapted for use in creasing and removing creases from articles of apparel, but which may be employed with equal facility for creasing and removing creases from other articles.

It has for a further object to provide a device of the character set forth combining advantages in point of simplicity, strength, lightness, inexpensiveness, and durability.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view, the heating-cap being removed Fig. 2, a vertical sectional View, the heating-cap being in place.

Corresponding parts in both the figures are denoted by the same reference characters.

Referring to the drawings, 1 represents a continuous piece of spring-wire bent upon itself and formed into a spring-loop 3 and upwardly and outwardly extending arms 4, the free ends of which are bent inwardly at 5 to form bearings 6. A metal ironing-roller 7 is rotatably mounted on each bearing 6 between a lower washer 8 and an upper washer 9, the upper washer being secured on the arm by upsetting its end at 10 and the lower washer by forming an enlargement 11 on the arm just below it.

Handles 12, of non-conducting material, are secured on the arms 4 between the springloop and the inward bends 5 and serve to afford a sufficient grip for the manipulation of the device and also to protect the hand from being burned, as would be the case if the naked wire were grasped.

For heating the rollers preparatory to ironing a metal cap 13 is slipped over the rollers after they have been brought together and is held thereon by the outward spring-pressure of said arms, this cap being for the purpose of preventing the rollers from getting sooty from contact with the heating-flame and also to confine the heat around them, and thereby accelerate their heating.

The operation is as follows: To heat the device, the handles are grasped and forced toward each other against their spring action until the rollers come together. The cap is then slipped over the rollers and they are held in a heating-flame until sufficiently heated, whereupon, the cap being removed, the arms will spring apart, separating the rollers,

, and the device is then ready for ironing. To

iron with the device, the article to be ironed or creased is inserted between the rollers, the handles grasped and forced toward each other against their spring action until the rollers grip the article between them, the device is then drawn back and forth over the article, and after it has been sufliciently ironed the grip on the handles is released, allowing, the rollers to separate, and the device is then removed.

I do not desire to be understood as limiting myself to the details of construction and arrangement as herein described andillustrated, as it is manifest that variations and modifica: tions may be made in the features of construction and arrangement in the adaptation of the device to various conditions of use without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention and improvements. I therefore reserve the right to all such variation and modification as properly fall within the scope of my invention and the terms of the following claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. An ironing device of the class described, comprising a body portion consisting of an integral piece or strip of spring-wire bent to form a middle spring-loop from the converging portion of which extend straight arms formed by the end portions of the piece of wire, said arms being bent inwardly near their outer ends and having an outer straight portion beyond said bend, and rollers mounted upon said outer straight portions of the arms beyond the bend.
