Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed October 20,1905. Serial No. 283,684.
Patented June 19,1906.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. BAIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pierce City, in the county of Lawrence and State of .Missouri, have invented a new and useful Condiment-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to condiment-hold ers, and has for an object to provide a device of the class embodying new and improved features of convenience, reliability of action, sightliness, andefflciency.
It is well known that some of the condiments in common use, notably common salt, are hygroscopic to such a degree that during humidweather they become so moist as to make their operation in shakers a matter of great annoyance.
It is an object of this invention to provide a condiment --holder embodying improved means for stirring and beating the contents of the holder and scraping the usual perforate top and feeding the contents.
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of arts, as will be hereinafter fully describe shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section through the condiment-holder, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the blades thereof.
Like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both figures of the draw- 111 s.
' lhe improved condiment-holder forming the subject-matter of this application comprises a receptacle of any approved size,
7 form, and material and having a perforate cap 11 secured thereon by the screw-threads, as shown, or by means of any latch, catch, or
' other approved means.
Within the receptacle is mounted a s indle 12, journaled at one end, as by the trunnlon 13, in a central opening in the cap and with the opposite end, as 14, extending through the bottom of. the receptacle and provided with any a proved means to rotate the s indle, here shown as a crank-arm 15, with a s t 16 formed upon the receptacle to accommodate the rotating means.
Adjacent the trunnion 13 any approved number of blades 17 18 are rigidly secured to the spindle 12 and in contact with the cap 11.
The lades are arranged in pairs, as 17 18, and are shaped similar to screw-propeller blades, but the individuals of the pairs reversely inclined to the cap, so that turned in the usual direction the forward edge of blade 17 is in contact with the cap to scrape away accumulations, while the forward edge of the blade 18 following is spaced fi'om the cap and the rearward edge in contact, so that the blade 18. serves to feed the contents and force it through the perforations opened and cleared by the preceding blade 17. If the motion is reversed, the blade 18 becomes the scraper and the blade 17 the feeder.
The spindle 12 is provided with any ap proved number of spaced radial arms or fingers 19 and other radial arms or fingers 20, extending from a U-shaped bar 21, disposed in vertical grooves 23 within the receptacle 10 and adapted to be slid longitudinally within these grooves either to place the arms in or remove them from position within the receptacle. rotating arms, so as to' agitate the contents of the receptacle and break up any lumps contained therein.
Having thus described theinvention, what is claimed is 1. A condiment-holder comprising a receptacle, a beater mounted to rotate therein, a removable device mounted within the receptacle, and inwardly-directed arms upon said device and adaptedto cooperate with the beater.
'2. A condiment-holder comprising a grooved rece tacle, having a closure, a series of rotatable eater-arms within the receptaole, means movable therewith for scraping material from the closure and forcing it therethrough, a rod detachably seated in the grooves and arms extending from the rod into the receptacle and cooperating with the rotatable beater-arms.
3. A condiment-holder comprising a re- These arms cooperate with the 1 ed to rotate in the receptacle and to cooper- I0 ate With the arms.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
