UNITED I STATES PATENT oFFIo i GEORGE R. HOWEY, OF PHILADIEHIA, PENNSYLVANIA. v
j NON- REFILLA BLE BOTTLE.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed October 19,1905. Serial No. 283,364:.'
170 all whom it may-concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE R. HowEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of, ennsylvania,'have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in N on-Refillable Bottles, of W 'ch the following is a specificat1on.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in non-refillable bottles, andneck of the bottle the flanges thereof are crimped or spun under the flared edges of the neck, so as to firmly hold cap has a tube F pro'jectingupward theremouth of the comadapted to receive a cork G, by which the bottle is closed, as will be readily understood. Lugs H project outward from the under side of the cap in order 7 against these pro ections will not obstruct the outward flow of the liquid.
From the foregoing descri tion it will be seen that in filling bottles ma e in accordance with my improvement the liquid is poured irito the same in the usual manner prior to the cap or valve being placed in position, after which the valve is dropped into its seat and the cap, which will then be in the shae shown in F1g. 3, placed over the mouth of the bottle and its depending sides E der the edges of the outwardly-flared neck, thus securely holding it in place and at the same time sealing it to said neck. For this purpose any suitable hand or power crimping machine may be used for turning the sides of the cap under the flared edges of the neck of the bottle.
When it is desired towithdraw the con- I tents or any portion thereof from the bottle, stand how to make and use the same, I will it is tilted in the usual manner, and the valve describeits construction in detail, referring by gravity will drop from its seat and the by letter to the accompanying drawings, liquid be permitted-to flow around the valve orming a part of this specification, in and out of the tube F, from which the cork G which has previously been withdrawn; but as soon Figure 1 represents a bottle-made in accordance with my improvement; Fig. 2, a positionthe valve will again'be seated. When section of a portion thereof; Fig. 3, a detail the valve is in this position, any attempt to section of the cap before it is crimped on the fill the bottle through the tube Fwill increase bottle, and Fig. 4 a detail perspective of the theweight of the valve by the liquid flowing into the recess D, thus firmly seating said valve.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a valve, and should an attempt be made to refill bottle, the body of which may be of any ordithe bottle by inverting and immersingit'ina neck B of which is quantity of uid flowing upward through the tube F wil be to float the valve upward against its seat, and the air accumulated in the then-inverted recess D will assist in holding the valve tightly upon its seat. I
Having thus fully described my invention, I prefer that this valve shall have a cupwhat I claim as new and useful is shaped recess D formed in the upper side 1. In combination with a bottle, a neck thereof for the purpose hereinafter set forth.
E represents the cap, which is preferably made of sheet metal, and when fitted to the liquids-such as liketo put their goods upon the market with the assurance that the bottles will not be refilled with a cheaper grade of material, which would naturally tend to injure the reputation of the pro rietor of a particular brand of goods an also deceive the purchaser.
With these ends in view my invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to whisky,
ared
any his neck is located a valve 0, preferably of glass, said valve being adapted to fit the inner inclined walls of the neck and when seated to prevent the inward ward and outward, a cap, the sides of which are crimped under the flared edges of the Patented June 19, 1906. I
it in place. This formed therewith, said neck being flared upcrimped unroo bottle, a valve ada neck, a tube formed with the cap serving as an outlet for the contents of the bottle and adapted to receive a cork for closing the bottle, a valve having a recess formed in its upper side, said valve adapted to fit the inner walls of the flared neck to prevent the passage of liquid to the bottle, and lugs projecting outward from the under surface oi the cap so as to prevent the valve from obstructing the outward flow of the contents of the bottle, as specified.
2. In combination with the flared neck of a ted to fit the inner walls of said neck, said va ve having a recess formed therein, a cap fitted to the mouthof saidneck i5 and having its sides crimped under the flared edge of the neck so as to-secure it in place, said cap having a tube rojecting upward therefrom for the outward fiow of the liquid, as specified. 20 In testimony whereof I hereunto aifix my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE It. HOWEY.
