This invention relates to improvements in fountain-pens, and more particularly to a iilling attachment for that type of pens wherein the reservoir-comprises a'compressible tube fitting Within the barrel.

Asordinarily constructed it is necessary to remove the feed ortion of the pen in order is operation not only consumes a large amount of time, but is also `almost invariably the means of soiling the iingers of the operator.

The object of this invention is to produce a device of the character mentioned which will enable the reservoir to be quickly filled withfrom the barrel and which will not add materially to the cost of manu- Lto in the following facturing the pens.

Corresponding and like parts are referred description and indicated in all the views of the drawings bythe same referencey characters. The numeral 1 designates the barrel of a fountain-pen ofthe usual construction, and 2 the point or feed-section thereof. The reservoir of this pen is of the customary construction and' comprises a compressible tube 3,

, which is usually formed of rubber and is permanently attached to the feed-section 2. In

order to fdl the pen as thus constructed, it is commonly necessary'to remove the feed-section 2 and the reservoir and to compress the rubber tube while the pen-point is placed 1n the pressure upon the ink will then be drawn or sucked therein and the reservoir thus filled. lIn order to do away with this operation, a longitudinal strip 4 is placed within the lbarrel 1 and adjacent to the reservoir, with the end of the strip Said strip 5, which side of or thumb-screw 6, having an enlarged milled iinger portion raised above its lower end. When this thumb-screw 6 is screwed up tightly on the threaded lug 5, with its lower end in engagement with the outer side of the barrel 1 and with its enlarged milled portion passes through an opening 1n the uraised above suchouter surface of the barrel for convenient manipulation, the strip 4 is held against the side of the barrel 1, so that it does not in any manner interfere with the usual operation of the pen. When it is desired to fill the reservoir 3, the thumb-screw 6 is unscrewed so as to allow the lug 5 to be pressed inward. This causes the strip 4 to compress the reservoir-tube, so that by placingV the pen-point in an ink-w ell and releasing the lug 5 the ink will be drawn up into the reservoir.
