This invention relates to'improvements-in devices for preventing the creeping of rails.
The object of this invention is to provide a meritorious antirail-creeping device which is exceedingly simple and durable in construction and reliable and very effective in its operation, and preferably bar adapted to be secureddnposition at one side of the'rail and rojectingforwardly in the direction in whic the rail tends to creep and terminating at its forward end in a jaw or rail-clamping portion having a-clampingsurface adapted to grip the adjacenit'longitudinal edge of the base of the rail at oneside of the rail, which bar. is provided at its for- --ward end with an arm which is arranged at a I right angle to the rail and projects from'the bar adjacent the said longitudinal edge of the 30, base under and transversely of the rail, and at its free end ad'acent the other. longitudinal. edge of the raii-base is provided with a jaw adapted to clamp or grip the rail-base, so that any tendency of the rail to creep will 3 5 tend toswing the arm forwardly or actuate the arm into a position diagonally of the rail, and thereby tighten the rail-clamping portions. 4 j I Withthis object in view and to the end of 40 realizing other advantages hereinafter appearing this invention consists in certain features of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter described, and pointed out inthe claims. To accommodate a convenientapplication of the device to the'rail and to cause the jaws or rail-clampin portions to" firmly grip the rail when the device is attached to the tie, the clamping-surface 4 of the j a'w g has the trend required to cause it to operate as a cam in gripping the rail during'the ap lication of the device-that is, the arm 5 is aced in position relative to the rail and t1e before the bar G is spiked to the tie, and thereupon the said bar is operated as a lever by swinging it upon the pivotfi toward the rail, so as to to the tie, as, shown. I would also remark IIO that the bar G is preierably arranged at somewhat of an angle to the rail, as shown in at I claim is 1. The combination, with a rail, and a tiearranged under and transversely of the rail, of a bar arranged upon and transversely of the tie at one side and longitudinallyof the rail, which bar is spiked or secured to the tie and has a free end projecting-beyond the tie in the direction in which the rail tends to creep and is provided at its said end with a j aw which grips or clamps the adjacent edge of the base of the rail at the aforesaid side of the rail, said end of the bar, having a railclamping arm arranged under and at a right angle to the rail, which arm terminates at the opposite side of the rail in a jaw for clamping or gripping the longitudinal edge of the base of the rail at the last-mention d side of the rail so that any tendency of the rail to creep will tend to actuate the arm into a position somewhat diagonally of the rail and thereby tend to tighten the grip of the jaws.
2. The combination, with a rail, and a tie :arranged under and transversely of the rail,
of a bar arranged upon the tie at one side of and spiked or secured to the tie, which bar has a free end which projects beyond the tie in the direction in which the rail tends tocreep and is provided at its said end with a jaw for clamping or gripping the base of the rail at the aforesaid side of the rail, said end of the bar having a rail-clamping arm arranged under and transversely of the rail, which arm terminates at the opposite side of the rail in a jaw for clamping the rail-base at the last-mentioned side of the rail so that any tendency of the rail to creep will tend to tighten the grip of the jaws.

The combination, with a rail, of a suitably-supported bar arranged at one side of the rail and rojecting in the direction in which the raiPtends to creep and provided at its forward end with a jaw for clamping or gripping the base of the rail at the aforesaid side of the rail, which bar has a rail-clamping arm which is arranged under and trans- Versely of the rail and terminates :at the op posite side of the rail in a jaw for clamping or gripping the rail-base at the last-mentioned side of the rail so that anytendency of the rail to creep will tend to actuate the arm into a position somewhat diagonally of the rail and thereby tend to tighten the grip of the aws.

The combination, with a rail, of a suit ably-supported bar arranged at one side of the rail and projecting in the direction in which the rail tends to creep and provided at its forward end with a j aw for clam ing or gripping the base of the rail at the a 'oresaid side of the rail, which bar has a rail-clamping arm which is arranged under and transversely of the rail and pivoted vertically to the bar in suitable proximity to the? railclamping surface of the aforesaid jaw, which arm terminates at the opposite side of the rail in a jaw for clamping or ripping the railbase at the last-mentionerf side of the rail, and, the aforesaid clamping-surface of the first-mentioned jaw being gradually spaced farther from the axis of the arm in the direction of the rear end of the bar.
