To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I WILLIAM A. Genny, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chelsea, in the county of Suflblk, State of Massachusetts, have'invented certain new and useful Improvements in Box-Covering Machines, of which the following is e s'pecifi cation.
My invention relates to box-covering machines, and has for an object to provide a. machine for covering flanged polygonal-- shaped boxes.
Other and further objects will a pear in the following descri tion and will no more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

1 represents the spindle-plunger, u )on the lower end of which is mounted a suite le vertically-movable form-block 2, adapted to enter a polygonal-shaped box 3 and forming part of the box-receiving means. The other member of the box-receiving means comprises a wooden block 5, mounted upon the upper end of a lower upright spindle 4 and having suitabl r secured thereto an iron polygonel-shaped base 6, provided with lateral projections 7 on all sides, the base being coextensive with the bottom and the flange of the box and extending be end the edges of the form-block. The covering-pressing means comprises a number of rollers 10, ositioned to operate simultaneously on VBJ'IOUS sides of the box and each rotatably mounted at its ends 13 in bearing projections 14 and havin a portion to enter the angle formed by the ange and a side well and a rounded portion, such as the periphery, to roll on a side well, and thus press the covering on the box. .To provide these portions, each roller is cut away to pro- 7 end 13 of the roller.

I have shown ut two resser-rollers in my drawings; but of course it will be understood that there are as many as there are side walls on the box and that each presser-roller of the machine will be like those shown herein.
The operation of the machine is as follows:

In the continued motion of the machine the rollers press the cover snufgly on the flange and in the exterior angles 0 t e box and then roll upon the sides of the box. In a machine for covering boxes, a ro-' tatablyqnounted coverpressing member adapted to roll in contact with the sidewall of the box to press the paper thereto and having a recess extending ongitudinally of the axis of the member to receive a flange on the box; said recess forming an offset which presses the paper into the angle caused by the flange, and forming with the periphery of said member, a part which projects into the angle between the flange and side.
5- In a box-covering machine, a coverpressing means, and a box-receiving means, movable relatively to oneanother and constructed to cause the pressin meansto traverse the wall of the box; sai cover-pressing means being engaged by the box-receiving means in the relative movement ofthe parts and having an offset conformin to an angular portion of the box, said 0 set entering the angular portion of .the boxv'hen the partsare engaged.

In a box-coverin machine the combination of the moving hox-receiving member, and the rotary cover-pressing member hav ing a recess providing an offset conforming to an angular portion of the box, and also providing an ofl'set constructed. to be engaged y the box-receiving member to cause the cover-pressing member toentiar such angular portion of the box.

The combination wane form-block of a box-covering machine, of a pressing -roller' provided with portions constructed to engage a flan e on a box, means moved-witht c said biock to impart movement to the roller in one direction, 'and means automatically moving the roller in the other direction when the direction of movement of the'form-block is changed. 2

9. ilhe combination with a box-receiving means, of a covering-pressing roller having portions extending longitudinally of its axis and adapted to receive a flange on a box and to enter the angle between the flange and a side wall of the box.
10. The combination with a box-receiving means, of a covering-pressing roller having a recess extending longitudinally of its axis and constructed to receive a flange on the' box, an edge adapted to enter the angle formed between the flange and the side wall, and a rounded portion for movement on a side wall of the box.
11 The combination of a box-covering roller having a recess positioned to receive a flange on a box, a form-block and means moved with the form-block and adapted to enter the recess and cause the movement of the roller.
12. The combination with a base on which the box is supported, of pressing-rollers constructed to receive a flange on a box and means carried by said base to impart movement to the rollers.
13. The combination with the form-block, of a base-block extending beyond the edges of the form-block, a roller provided with a recess one wall of which rovides an edge adapted to'enter the angle ormed between a flange on a box and a side wall, means on the base engaging the roller to cause itsmovement in one direction and means automatically moving the roller in the other direction.
14. In a machine for covering flanged boxes, a box-receiving means and coverin -pressing means, independently mounted an movable relatively to one another, the parts being provided with portions constructed to engage during the relative movement and cause the cover-pressing means to operate on the box and the covering-pressing means being provided with port ons constructed to o erate upon aside wall and a flange on the flox to press the covering thereon.

23. In a box-covering machine, means for applying ecovering to the side wall of a box having an extension edge, comprising a roller provided with a recess, means to rotate said roller in one direction, and means to return said roiier to its original position.

In a machine for covering extensionedge boxes, a movable box-support. means for applying a covering-blank to the walls of the box, means moving in advance of said first-named means to turn the covering-blank over and down upon the extension edges, and means whereby the movement of the box- 25.
