To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known thatl, JOsEPH TREMBLEY, a citizen'ol the United States, residin at A1" gyle, in the county of Marshall and tate of Minnesota, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clamps for Holding Meat, of which the following is a s eciiication.
My invention relates to 0 amps for holding meat in position while it is being cut or the bone thereof being sawed; and its primary object is to rovide a novel and highly-useful device of t character which is comparatively simple and durable and cheap to manulecture.
With the above and other objects in View the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Fl ure 1 is a detailed perspective view of a butchers block having my improved meatclarnp secured thereto. Fig. 2 is a detailed side elevation of the plunger. Fig. 3 is a detailed rear elevation of the standard. Fig. 4 is a detailed side elevation of the clampingarm.
Referring to the drawings by reference-numerals, 1 designates a butchers choppinglock sup orted by means of legs 2, the same being of the usual form and construction.
A standard 3 is secured to the block 1 and rises vertically above the working face thereof and is provided with a horizontal arm 4, which extends laterally over the working face of the block to a oint adjacent its center. The lower end 0 the standard 3 is flattened to provide an attachim member 5, having openings 6; through which may be let suitable fastening means to secure the standard in applied osition. The end of the arms 4 is provided with an opening (not shown) and intermediate its ends with a vertically-dis osed bearing 9. Pivotally mounted upon t e standard 3, as at 10, is a clamping-arm 11, the same having its free end provided with a plurality of meat-engaging fingers 12, said lingers being space and dis- )osed horizontally, then downwardly, and

The lever 11 is bent at a point intermediate its ends and is provided at this bent portion with an elongated opening 13, whereby said opening is arrenged m the are of the circle. A plunger 15 a and mounted within the bearing a and has its ower end bifurcated to straddle being provided with alined openings 17', through which pro'ects a bolt 18 to engage'in the slot 13, whereby to connect the plunger with the lever and to permit the latter to have a limited relative movement thereon. The plunger 15 is provided at a ooint M19 cent its u per end with a shouluer 19, and interpose between the said shoulder and bearing 9 is an expansion-spring 20, the same serving to retain the lingered endof the lever 11 elevated from the working face of the block 1. An'operating-lever 21 has one end secured to the horizontal arm L'by means of links 22, secured to one end of the lever and to the end of the arm l. The op crating-lever 21 is curved from 9. int adjacent its pivoted end to the hand e portion 23 thereof on the arc of the circle of which'the' bearing 9 is the center. The curved portion of the operating-lever is adapted to fit in the upper bifurcated end 24 of the plunger 15, whereby the downward movement of the opatin -lever will cause the plunger to descend and ring the fingers 12 of the c 11 in engagement with a piece of meat; The elongated opening 13 compensates for the immovable ivot of the lever 11 upon the standard immediately upon the removal of the pressure from the operating-lever 21 the sprin will move the plunger 15 upward, and t ere y extract the ingers 12 from enga ement with the meat and retain them in e evated position. A ratchet 24 is secured to the standard 3 and rises vertically above the arm 4. The operatin -lever 21 is provided with a ratchet 25, whic is adapted to enga e one of the teeth of the bar 24 to retain t e lingers \12 in engagement with a iece of meat, and thereby clamp the meat etween the same and the working face of the block 1. 1 The operation of this improved meat-clamp l may be stated in the following:
When it is desired to clamp a piece of meat down upon the workingd'ace of the block 1, the operating-lever 21 is caused to move downward through the medium of the handle 23, and in viewof the interposition of the plunger 15 between the operating-legs 21 and the clamping-lever 11 the latter-named lever is also caused to move downward and bring the fingers 12 into engagement with a piece of meat and clamp the same upon the 1 working face of the block 1. To retain the the lever 11, the legs 16 of said bifurcation ampingdever meat clamped, the ratchet is thrown into enga ement with one of the teeth of the bar 24. en it is desired to release the meat, the ratchet 25 is thrown out of enga ement with the tooth and the spring 20 Wil move disposed arm extending across the working face of the block, a clamping-lever pivotally I secured to the standard, a plunger movably mounted upon the horizontal arm and having connection with the clamping-lever, a lever pivotally secured to the horizontal arm and adapted to engage the plunger, and a spring carried by the plunger and serving to retain the clamping-arm normally elevated.

the combination with a butchers block, of a standard secured thereto, a clampin -arm pivotally secured to the standard an provided with a curved elongated opening, a movably-mounted plun er, means passing through said opening an engaging the plunger to provide a loose connection therebetween, and a -pivotally-mounted operatinglever having a curved portion adapted to enn testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
