Specification of Letters Patent.

.L all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LoUrs'DEJoNGE, Jr., a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Stapleton, borough of Richmond, in the county of Richmond and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Colla sible Screen, of which the ollowing is a fu l, clear, and exact descripion.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a construction of screen whereby it can be rolled up, making a small package for storage or transportation, and whereby also it can be quickly, conveniently, and rmly set up for use.
rllhe invention consists of the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, and pointedout in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a partlof this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the iigures.
Figure 1 is aperspective view of the improved screen. Fig. 2 is an inner face view of a portion of the screen. Fig. 3 is an outer face View of that portion of the screen shown 1n Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section taken practically on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
-The screen, as illustrated, com rises two panels A and B. rIhe framewor of each panel consists of two u rights 10 and 11 and upper and lower latchars 12 and 13, which bars are pivoted to one u ri ht, and when the screen is set u the atc -bars engage with buttons 14 or t eir equivalents upon the other upright.
In placing the latch-bars on the frame one is pivoted to the outer upright of the frame and the other to the'inner u right, so -that when the frame is to be folded) or rolled u a latch-bar can be carried over and para lel with each of the uprights.
The body 15 of the screen is made of canvas, fabric, or other pliable material and is tacked or otherwise secured to the uprights of both panels A and 1B. At the outer edge of each upright a molding orlongitudinal batten 16 is secured, which moldin s or battens serve to uniformly and rmly old the material of the body to the uprights 10 and 111.w The body material is continuous from the' outer upright of one panel to the outer edge of the mating anel, and being secured to the outer longitu inal portions of the inner uprights of the anels the said body in itself constitutes a lnged connection between the panels.
It is evident under the construction above set forth that if the latch-bars 12 and 13`are disconnected from their buttons or kee ers 14 and are carried down longitudinally o the uprights 1() and 11 the said u rights can be rolled up in the bodyy materia thereby producing a package practically circular in crosssection and of very small dimensions transversely. It is furthermore evident that the screen can be quickly and conveniently set up, as all that is needed is to unroll the body, p ace the uprights vertically, and connect them by means of the latch-bars and buttons or keepers.
Having thus describedl my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl 1. A screen comprising a plurality of panels, the frame of each panel comprising two uprights, a latch-bar pivoted to each upright, the latch-bar upon one upright being at the opposite end from the latch-bar upon the other upright, a kee er upon each upright for engagement by the atch-bar of the other upri ht and a body-section of pliable materiaI secured to the uprights, said body-section being continuous on all of the panels.
2. A screen comprising a plurality of panels, the frame of each panel comprising two uprights, a latch-bar pivoted to' each upright, the latch-bar upon one upright being at the opposite end from the latch-bar upon the other upright, a kee er upon each upright for engagement by the atch-bar of the other upri ht and' a body-section of pliable materia secured to the uprights, said body-section being continuous on all of the anels, and being secured to the uprights by attens arranged longitudinally of the uprights.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JNO. M. RITTER, J. FRED Achten.
