CARPET-CUTTER AND THE LIKE- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 1906.
Application filed July 20,1905. Serial No. 270,573-
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELSON WILLIAM AL- DoUs, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carpet-Cutters and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in carpet-cutters and the like; and the object of the invention is to devise a simple, neat, efficient, and durable carpet-cutter whereby the carpet or the like may be easily, quickly, and cleanly cut; and it consists, essentially, of a frame, a discus-shaped wheel, a roller acting in conjunction with said wheel, and rollers supporting said frame, all arranged as hereinafter more particularly explained.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my carpetcutter. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the carpet-cutter through the center of the discusshaped wheel and in a plane at right angles to the plane of the wheel.
In the drawings like figures of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
A is the disk or discus-shaped wheel, supported in suitable bearings A.
- B is the frame, having a convenient and substantial handle as a portion thereof or attached thereto, and C is a spiked, roughened, or corrugated surfaced wheel supported in suitable bearings in the frame and having a groove with a perpendicular and a slant side, the perpendicular forming a knife-edge, which, together with the sharp periphery of the discus-shaped wheel, forms the cuttingsurfaces of the machine.
D are rollers having a rubber covering E, whose surfaces by engagement with the surface of O give to it a rotary motion, and thus help to feed the carpet or the like to the cutting-surfaces, and at the same time perform 'the function of rollers on which the frame It will be seen that with a cutter such as I describe a simple and effective means of producing the desired result has been found and should prove itself to be a necessary acquisition to those engaged in a business requiring such device.
What I claim as my invention.is
A carpet-cutter consisting of a frame, a sharp disk mounted therein, a roller having a circumferential roove also mounted in the frame below saif disk, one side of the groove being inclined and the other perpendicular to form a cutting edge, said disk engaging with said cutting edge and friction-rollers engaging with the grooved roller to impart motion to the same.
NELSON WILLIAM ALDOUS.
