APPLICATION FILED DEO. 30, 1905 2 SHEETS--SHEET 2-v bars 2() is one of the sets of escapeinent-bars or reeds 1:3, there being one set of escapenient-bars or reeds for each key of the machine, and whenever one ot the keys is depressed movement will be transmit-ted through one set of" ecsapement-bars or reeds and cross-bar 20, connected thereto, will be correspondingly raised. One end of each bar 2() is pivotally connected to the lower end of a rod 22', the upper end ot said ,rod being operatively connected with its respective escapement B. Th'e opposite end ot' said bar is connected to a rod 22%, and the upper end of said rod 23 is operatively connected with its respective esca peni en't mechanism 1l. The two slides '26 aie connected by a crossbar 30, from which extends a latch-bar 31 ,having a linger-piece 32 within convenient reach of the operator, and the latch-bar is provided with notches 33 and 34, either of which may be engaged with a stud or rib 35, that is carried by a portion ol" the stationary frame 16, a-spring 36 serving to hold the bar in either position to which it may be adjusted.
It will be noted that the Aful-criini-bar 27 rests against the disks 24 and hile confining the cross-bars 20 and the vertical. rods in place, will not interfere with the free swinging of the free ends of the bars 2() ol the pivotpins by which they are. connected to the. vertical bars.
The machine may be operated in the ordinary manner, and in order to change from one style of type to another--that is to say, to eli'ect the discharge of matrices from either the magazine A or the magazine lOwit is merely necessary for the operator to adjust the latch-bar 31 in ordcr to shift the Julcrumbar 27, and in this manner a line may be assembled from one or other or partly from both oi the magazines.

In mechanism of the class described, a plurality of reservoirs, escapement mechanisms for controlling the discharge of matrices from the reservoirs, eseapement-rods, a crossbar forming a linked connection between the lower portions of said escapement-rods, a keyboardcontrolled eseapement actuati mechanism connected to said cross-bar, am an adjustable means for holding one or other end ol: the bar and permitting movement of the opposite end thereof to operate one or other of the escapement-rods.

In mechanism ofthe class described,.the vcombination with a plurality of reservoirs, of independent escapement's for controlling the dischargeI of matrices therefrom, independent escapement-rods for transmittingr movement to said escapements, a cross-bar forming a linked connection between the lower portions of said rods, an adjustable means for holding one or other end of the cross-bar stationary and forming a fulcrum for movement of the other end of the bar, and a keyboardcontrolled actuated mechanism connected to j, said cross-bar.

In mechanism ofthe class described, the combination with a plurality of reservoirs, of independent escapements for controlling the discharge of matrices from said reservoirs, a frame, a pair of opposed angle-bars sup-` ported thereby and provided with ribs or partitions dividing the angle-bars into pockets,l cross-bars having their opposite ends arranged in the pockets,escapement-actuating bars pivotally connected to the oppositeI ends of the cross-bars, disks carried by the pivots and resting against the walls of the anglebars, a keyboard-controlled actuating mechanism connected to the central portions of said cross-bars, a pair of spaced slides, a fulerum-bar carried thereby and extending above the cross-bars, and a latch-lever for moving the slides and fulcrum-bar to adjust the latter into engagement with one or other set oftlisks. i
