.To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that 1, JOHN W. BARNES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Gilead, in the county of Morrow and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Fence-Post, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to fence-posts, and has ior its object to form the same from a metal blank which may be conveniently folded to complete the post in a simple and inexpensive manner, it being particularly designed to adapt the post for the support of wire fencing.

Another object of the invention is to produce from the blank an anchor capable of effectually supporting the 0st in an upright position wit out the crop oynient of any extraneous ancho or bracing means.

A still further 0 ject of the invention is'to adapt the same for use as an end post as well as an intermediate post.

It is furthermore designed to enable the convenient attachment of runner-wires, to the post in a simple and effective manner and to provide for taking up slack in the runnerwires through the medium of the means for 1 the wires to the Lost. 1th these and other 0 jects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described; shown in the accom anying drawings, and particularly points out in the appended claims, it being 35 understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claims without definiplg from the s hit or sacrificing e a vantages of t e invent on.

Located midway between corresponding notches is a series of erforations 10. The blank thus described is olded along its longitudinal center, so as to produce an angle-post, having its sides 11 and 12 disposed at substant allg right angles to one another with the fol -or corner extending through the series of perforations 18.. In foldingthe blank one of the base-sections overlaps the other and has its inner edge enclearly indicated in Fig. Letter whic rivets 13 are passed throigh the openings 6 and 7, which come into moment when the base members are folded. The post is now complete and read to be set up with its lower portion embed ed in the ground the composite base made up of the members 4 and 5 constituting an anchor to support the cat in an upright position without the emp oyment 0 extraneous anchoring and bracing means.

When the post has been set up, the fencewires 14 are passed through corresponding notches 8 and into the seats 9 whereb the wires are conveniently assembled wit the post.

To prevent the displacement of the wires from the seats ofthe ost,hooks or eyebolts 15 are engaged with tl ie respective wires and passed throu h certain of the erforations 10, a nut 16 ein fitted upon the threaded extremity of each 00k or e ebolt' and set 11 ti ht against the back of t e post. It wil 0 course berunderstood that the nuts are employed to draw the hooks or fasteners rearwardly, so as to kinkthe wires across the seats, and thereby wire and to accommodate the fastening with respect to the height of the wire within the seats.

To produce an end 0st, as shown in Figs. 1 and 4, four of the Intermediate posts are assembled back to back and then fastened by means of rivets 17, passed through the conti uous sides of ad'acent ost members. When forming an en post 0 this character the edge notches and seats 8 and 9 are omitted, and the contiguous sides of one air of post members are pierced by a series 0 openings 19, through which the runner-wires are passed, andthen fastened in any suitable manner-such, for instance, as being twisted upon themselves, as clearly indicated in the drawings.

Having fully described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A fence ost formed of plate metal which is bent ongitudin'ally to produce an anglepost, the bottoms of the sides of the post being bent at substantially right angles thereto and overlapped to form an anchoring-base, the longitudinal edges of the post being provided with anglenotches, the back of the post being provided with perforations between notches, hooked bolts adjustable endwise through certain of the openings, and nuts ap lied to the bolts and bearing against the back of the post.

2. A fence-post formed of late metal which is bent longitudinally to orm an anle-post, the bottoms of the sides of the post being bent at substantially right angles thereto and overlapped to form an anchoring base, the led itudinal ed es of the post being provided wit 1 alined an imotehes, the back of the post being provid ed with perforations alined between the notches, and fence-fasteners adjustable endwise through the perforations.

3. A fence-post blank provided in its longitudinal edges with transversely-alined wire-- receiving notches, there being a longitudinal series of perforations formed through the middle of the blank and located between the notches, one end of the blank being provided with a central longitudinal slit dividing said end of the blank into wings, said wings being provided with perforations disposed to come into alinement when the blank is folded longitudinally to form an angle-post with the wings overlapped.
