Be it known that I,Jon.\ QUNN, a citiough of Brooklyn, city of New York, State of New York, have invented certain newand l useful Improvements in Regulation ot Furnaces, of which the following is a specification.
A primary object of this invention is autot matically to maintain in the fire-chamber of a forced-draft furnace a uniform or substan- I tially uniform pressure that may be equal or substantially equal to that ofthe atmosphere t of the furnace-room or such other snbstanl tiallv uniform pressure as may be desired. The purpose is to obtain maximum elli-i ciency, economy or fuel consumption, and l minimum liability of injury to the furnace f or associated parts by inrush of cold air when 3' the door of the fire-box is opened. ' The speed of the blower will therefore be controlled relatively to the boiler-pressure, vso that at all times the desired volume and pressure of air will be delivered to the furnace.
In order to regulate or control the ressure within the fire-box above the fuel, t e present invention contemplates that the discharge of the products oi' combustion from 8o the furnace shall be controlled by the pressure within the fire-box. vIn the present instance this moe of control is shown as accomplished by controlling the damper in the stack correspondingly with variations o ressure in the fire-box. The invention, lowever, is not in its broadest aspect limited to this particular mode of control nor to the s iecial t paratus illustrated and described. hus if t e fire-box pressure rises above the 9o desired normal the rod s is raised and the damper correspondingly opens, and vice versa, the movements of the damper being graduated and bearing a relation to the variations of presure in the fire-box. To afford adjustment. the rod s may be composed of two arts united by a reversely-threaded adjusta le coupling or sleeve t'. (Shown in Fig. 2.) In this Way, the various parts of the apparatus beingr properly proportioned or la: related to each other, a substantially uniform )fessure and auch pressure as is desired may maintained in the lire-box.
I claim as mv invention- 1. The combination with a steam-boiler and its furnace, of means governed by the steam-pressure in said boiler for positively supplying,r airfto the said furnace relatively to the steam-pressure, a damper and moans governed b v the ressure of the furnace-gases for 5 controlling t e damper tol maintain a substantially constant predetermined pressure in said furnace.

The combination with a steam-boiler and its furnace, of means voverned by the 1o steam-pressure in said boiler for positively supplying air to said furnace relatively to the steam-pressure, and means governed by the iressure in the furnace for maintaining a substantially constant predetermined pres- 15 sure in said furnace.
