IMPROVEMENT IN BURGLAR-ALARMS.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, N. LABSEN', of Denmark, resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Burglar-Alarms;" and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference. being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the arrangement of the lever to produce the ringing of the bell, in connection with the arrangement ofthe indicator, showing whether the alarm is in working prder or not; also, in providing a key, winding the clock-work of the alarm, witha cam so arranged and used in combination with a pistol as to discharge the pistol when the bell commences to ring. It consists also in a bobbin of thread attached to the box, enclosing the alarm-machinery, said thread being used for the connection of machinery with doors, windows, and other objects.
To enable others skilled'in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use said invention, Iwill proceed to describe its construction and operation.
With an ordinary clock-work escapement, A, hammer B is connected, for the purpose of ringing thebcll C. Said hammer is provided with a pin, 6, and the rod B is provided with a stop, 6'. i
A lever, D, supported by a sheave, R, and provided with a hook, d, at its end, has its inner end secured to the plate E, said plate, provided with a pin, f, which, when in contact with pin 6 of the hammer B, prevents the last fromstriking the hell. v
The plate E pivots around pin e, and is held in proper place by coil-spring F, attached to the base, G, and the wire H being secured also to the said plate at the pivot e, the result is that when lever D is moved in or out of the box V, the bent-up end of the wire H moves to the right or left, and thehand it that sets on the end of said wire thus indicates whether pins f and Z: are in contact or not, and consequently whether the alarmmachinery is in or out of order. Square opening a is made in the top of the box V, to show the hand it.
Sliding plate I has the purpose to press against the stop 5' of the hammers rod and put the alarm out of work.
The key K is provided with cam L, and is set on the shaftk, by which the spring of the clock-work A is wound, and isat the same time placed inside of the-guard of the cocked and capped pistol M, secured to the top of the box V, so that when the alarm commences to sound, the shaft k and the key K commence to revolve,"-
' and the cam L, pressing on the trigger N of the pistol, dischargesthe same.
Bobbin 6,, with thread wound on, is set in a frame, W, and is provided with handle 0, the lower plate .of its frame being secured to the slide P, moving in the grooves provided in the top of the box V.
The operation consists in this, that the plate I is pressed inside, and the clock-work wound. Bobbin O is taken, ed the box, the end of the thread hooked on to the lever D, and is passed to the door, window, or some other object, and secured to them in such a manner, that the slightest pull on the thread will pull or push in the lever and produce the alarm.
If wire is used in place of thread, that wire is connected with the lever D.
In order to set the alarm ready for work, the-plate I is carefully moved out, so as to release the hammer,
' and the pins 6 andf are put in contact, the key K is put in its place and the pistol adjusted. At the slightest pull orpush of thelever D,,the alarm is produced and the pistol is fired.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The lever D, plate E, with pinf, spring F, and wire H, all combined and operating as and in the manner herein described, and for the purpose specified. u
2. In combination with the above,'the pin 6 of the hammer B, and the bobbin 0, arranged substantially a set forth. a
3. The key K, when used as described, and provided with cam L, for the purpose of operating the trigger N, as herein shown and specified.
