TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GRANT O. BALDWIN, of Hillsborough, in the county of Highland, and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stills; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad tothe accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in the application of steam to the fruit, for the extraction of the liquor from the same, the fire being applied to a boiler, and said boiler connecting with the still 'by means of steampipe, thus forcing the steam into and through the fruit, rising upwards to the condenser on top, the liquor running out from the condenser through apipe inthe side thereof, and cold water being keptoontinually running into the condenser, and out through'ope'n tube over the liquor-pipe.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification, A represents 'a furnace, andB a boiler thereon, made of any suitable material, and of any dimensions required.
The boiler B connects with the copper still, D, by means of the pipe 0, which conducts the steam from the top or side of the boiler to the sidepf the still near its bottom, said steam pipe contracting or narrowing towards the point where it enters the still. i
The steam thus conducted into the still goes through the fruit put in the same, extracting the liquor therefrom, and rises up into the condenser, E, whichis placed on top of the still.
The top of the still is cone-shaped, and provided with an opening, surrounding which is the neck, It. This neck fits into a similar neck or tube, 1', in the bottom of the condenser, which tube extends downward.
The bottom of the condenser is a hollow cone, as shown in the drawings,.the lower bottom; 6, of which extends from the top of the tube 2', slanting outwards, and the upper bottom, a, forming a point, k, in the centre,
and also extending in a slanting direction downward, so that a space, m, is left between the two bottoms, a and b, in which space the impregnated steam rising from the still D is condensing, the liquor passing out through a tube, a, and spout cl, into a vessel placedfor its reception.
Inside of the condenser, over the top bottom a, a stream of cold wateris kept continually running, which water passes out through a pipe, e, in the side of the condenser, near its top, said pipe being so arranged that the water is discharged and runs along the liquor-tube a, and finally discharged through the spout Having thnsfully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The slide D and condenser E, constructed as described, when used in combination with the boilerB and steam-pipe G, substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 19th day of May, 1868.
GRANT O. BALDWIN. Witnesses:
