IMPROVEMENT IN STEAM SAFETY-VALVE.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN-z Be it known that I, E. H. ASHCROFT, of the city of Boston, county of Suffolk, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Steam Safety-Valves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of'this specification, ill-Which like parts are indicated by like letters in the several figures.
The nature of my invention consists in protecting the metallic spring or springs used in connection with steam safety-valves.
- To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
In the drawings- Figure 1 represents a part elevation and section of my improvement, and
Figure 2 a horizontal section of the same;
A represents the base or seat of my valve.
B, standards attached to the base.
C is a cross-head, through which the standards pass, its height being regulated by nuts, 8 s.
D is the valve-seat, in which is fitted properly the valve V, which has, as usual, a stem, 12, passing upon and through the cross-head O.
c is a'spring, which is confined between the valve B and the cross-head C surrounding the stem, 6, and properly secured in place.
The cross-head O has a suitable projection, 12, on each side of it as a top covering for the spring c.
P is a raised cylindrical projection, of one inch, more or less, in height, which surrounds the lower end of the spring 0. This projection is a part of the top of the valve V.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The arrangement of the projecting jacket cl with the cross-head C, with reference to the valve and spring,
substantially as herein shown and described.
