Description

I PATENTBD APR. 24, 1906. P. KRUMSGH-EID.
PIANO AOTIO N,MBGHANI-GAL PLAYER. APPLICATION FILED JULY 29, 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 24, 1906.
Application filed July 29, 1905. Serial No. 271,830.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PETER KRUMsoHEm, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Piano-Actions, Mechanical Players, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
My invention relates to a mechanism connected to a fixed part of the piano and so arranged that the upward movement of the staff, which is operated by the mechanical player, will serve to throw up a lever and through it the extension-piece and the wippen and also cause a reaction by the said lever on the end of the key, and thus keep it in place.
The object is to simplify the construction of these parts and to secure more perfect results. This object I attain by means of the construction shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation showing my device and the parts of a piano-action that relate to my device. Fig. 2 shows in plan the parts in which my invention is involved.
In the drawings, A represents a piano-key of ordinary construction. This key is mounted and has the ordinary adjuncts of piano"- keys, and it need not be particularly described.
My device is attached to the rail R by the bracket H and consists of a swinging link E, pivoted to the bracket H by the pin E and pivotally connected to the tilting foot-piece D D by the pin The tilting foot-piece D D has one end D resting upon the capstanscrew A while its other end D rests upon the pad O at the upper end of the staff B. The lower end of the extension-piece K rests in a recess P, formed in the tilting foot-piece D D, and has flanges K K attached to it. These flanges extend downward, so as to em.-
brace the sides of the tilting foot-piece D D ,and are pivotally attached to the said tilting foot-piece and also to the link or extensionguide E by the pin E The end of the tilting foot-piece D D is provided with an opening, as indicated by dotted lines at T, to admit of the insertion of a screw-driver for the purpose of turning the adjusting-screw A.
The operation of my device is as follows: Keeping in mind the fact that the tilting foot-pieceD Dis free to be moved from either end and to act upon the extension-piece K and through it the wippen and hammerthus, if the key A is depressed the capstanscrew A will cause the end D of the foot-piece to rise, and thus raise the extension-piece K, the end D turning on the end C of the staff B as a fulcrum. In case the mechanical player is operating then the stall B will raise the end D of the tilting foot-piece and cause the extension K to rise, and thus operate the capstan-screw A as a fulcrum and incidentally hold the key A in place.
I claim- In a pianoforte-action, having a mechanical player attachment, a device consisting of a key and adjusting capstan-screw an extension-piece resting upon a tilting erated by it and said tilting foot, the outer end of which rests upon the said adjustingscrew; a mechanically-operated riser constructed to actuate the said tilting foot; and an extension-guide one end of which is pivoted to a fixed part and the free end to the said tilting foot-piece; substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses, 011 this 25th dayof June, A. D. 1905.
