PATENTED APR-1'7, 1906.

Q INVENTOR APPLICATION FILED JULY 21.1904.
WI TNESSE S; 2 4M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFTGE.
MANUFACTURE OF BOTTLES, FLASKS, AND THE LIKE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
L'atented April 17, 1906.
Application filed July 21, 1904. Serial No. 217,597.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PAUL WAGRET, a citizen of the Republic of France, and a resident of Escautpont near Fresnes, Nord, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Manufacture of Bottles, Flasks, and the Like, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an apparatus for distributirn sawdust to the molds in the manufacture oi bottles, flasks, or the like, said sawdust to take the place of the wood chips or shavings heretofore used which have been introduced into the molds and which when the molten material is introduced causes said chips to carbonize, and thus act as a lubricant for the walls of the mold and prevent the glass from adherin to them.
An apparatus accor ing to this invention is illustrated, by way of example, in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the ap aratus in section viewed from the side wit reference to the place it occupies in front of the blower. Fig. 2 is a section of the apparatus in front elevation. Fig. 3 is an outside view of the a paratus viewed from the side. Fig. 4 is a ont elevation of the apparatus. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the apparatus.
The apparatus consists of a funnel-shaped cast-iron casing or hopper A, adapted to contain the sawdust. The lower narrow portion of the casing is open and allows the sawdust to escape, the quantity of sawdust discharged being regulated by means of a slide B or the like sliding in horizontal grooves in the walls of the casing A.
The slide B, operated by means of a lever C, is extended outside by means of a cylindrical rod supported at D and surrounded by a helical spring E. The slide B is provided at F with a hole through which passes the lower end of the operating-lever C, pivoted about a pin N, secured to the side of the casing A. v This slide B is rovided within the casing A with another ole through which passes a movable rod G, with a flange to prevent it falling through the hole, said rod being maintained in vertical position and breaking up and setting in motion the sawdust at each stroke of the lever.
A'set-screw H can be provided to limit the motion of the slide-rod. By advancing or withdrawing this screw as the slide B is moved by the lower extremity of the lever C, which controls it, the quantity of the sawdust discharged can be regulated as desired.
The apparatus is filled from the top with sawdust through an opening K, closed by a horizontally-pivoted plate. It is secured to some suitable part of the bottle-blower by means of angle-pieces I, secured to its upper art. P To the tube terminating the lower portion of the casin A is connected an extension-pipe L for gui ing the sawdust to the bottle-mold. The pipe L can be raised or lowered in accordance with the height .of the mold and is supported by a bracket J, adjustable on a vertical standard of the catch of the blower.
A bracket M, Figs. 3 and 4, the upper portion of which is provided with a horizontal groove, is secured to the bottom of the casing A and supports at D the cylindrical rod, which forms the extension of the slide B. The said bracket is provided with a tapped hole in which moves the set-screw H.
When using the apparatus, the operator presses the lever C, the lower end of which, engaging with the hole F in the slide B, causes the latter to move, compressing at the same time the spring E.
As long as the/operator presses on the lever C the sawdust will fall into the pipe L, which discharges it into the bottle-mold. When the workman ceases to press on the lever C, the spring E expands and moves the slide B back, so that it closes the lower opening of (tihe casing A and cuts off the supply of sawust.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In an apparatus of the character described, the combination with a hopper for containing sawdust having a discharge-opening at its lower end and a tube communicating with said opening and adapted to discharge sawdust into a mold, of a regulating-slide arranged to control the discharge of sawdust name to this specification in the presence of through tihe diSChaIgEB-OPfiIliilgi of the hopper, two subscribing witnesses. a Note s rin -cont'ro 6 ever en agin sai l slide to nov e the same, and a rod c arriec l PAUL WAGRET' 5 by the sliole adapted to break up or agitate Witnesses:
the sawdust at each stroke of the lever. GEORGE FAUGIR,
In testimony whereof I have signed my MAURICE FAUGE, Jr.
