Description
PATENTED APR. 1'7, 1906.
A. S. WEAVER.
EYEGLASS MOUNTING.
APPLICATION FILED DEO.1, 1905 WJTNEE: 5 E 5 ALBERT S. WEAVER, OF
PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHRISTOPHER A. MURRAY, OF PAWTUOKET, RHODE ISLAND.
'EYEGLASS-MOUNTIING.
Application filed December 1,
T0 aZZ whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT S. WEAVER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Providence, in the State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eyeglass-Mountings, of which the following is a specification.
The purpose of my invention is to provide efficient means for preventing the fasteningscrews of eyeglasses from unscrewing or working loose.
To this end my invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of a pair of eyeglasses embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a similar view, on an enlarged scale, of the stud-piece and fastening-screws, the spring and lens being shown partly broken away. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the stud-piece, studpost, and stud-box. Fig. 5 is a p an view of the screw-locking clip. Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the fasteningscrew.
Similar reference letters and numerals indicate like parts in the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, A A represent the lenses of an eyeglass, B the spring, and O O the nose-guards, all of the well-known construction. The stud-piece, comprising, as usual, the flanges 1 1 and the stud-strap 2, is connected in the usual manner with the studboX 5 by the stud-post 4.
5 represents a studboX, in the sides of which I construct the notches 5 5, arranged in common alinement and adapted to be engaged by two opposite peripheral arms of a fastening-clip, as hereinafter described. 6 represents a fastening-screw, in the head of which I construct radial notches I) 1), arranged in common alinement and adapted to serve as hereinafter described. 8 represents the locking clip, formed, preferably, of soft easily-bendable metal and provided with a perforation for the insertion therethrough of the fastening-screw, and also provided with integral peripheral quadrantally-arranged arms 8 8 8 8 said arms 8 8 having a common alinement and adapted to be seated in Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented April 1'7, 1906.

said notches 5 5 of the stud-box 5 to thereby prevent said clip from turning, and said arms 8 8 having a common alinement and adapted to be turned into the radial notches b b in the head of the fastening-screw after the latter is driven to place, and thereby prevent said screw from turning.
The spring B and nose-guard O are fitted in the stud-box 5 in the well-known manner, and the fastening-screw 6, previously inserted through the perforation in the lockingclip 8, passes through them into the studboX, appropriately tapped and threaded therefor.
In practical operation of my invention the spring B and nose-guard O, being seated in the stud-box 5, the fastening-screw 6 is inserted in the perforation of the locking-clip 8, passed through the spring and nose-guard, also perforated for the purpose, and screwed into the stud-box, Figs. 2 and 3, until the opposite arms 8 8 are carried into the notches of said stud-box and by said notches held to prevent the locking-clip 8 from turn-' ing. The fastening-screw 6 is then driven to place to bind the clip, spring, and nose-guard firmly in the stud-box, and finally the opposite arms 8 8 of the locking-clip 8 are turne into the radial notches b b in the head of the fastening-screw 6, thereby locking said screw and preventing it from turning or working loose. I am thus enabled to positively lock the fastening-screw itself and prevent it from unscrewin While have in the drawings shown a round-head fastening-screw and consider that form of screw-head preferable for neat and finished work, it will be understood that my invention is not in any wise restricted as to the form of the head of the fastening-screw.
I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent An eyeglass-mounting consisting of the combination with a stud-box having notches in two opposite sides, of a fastening-screw having a and a locking-clip having a perforation for the insertion therethrough of said fasteningscrew, and provided with a plurality of opposite peripheral arms, two of said op osite arms adapted to be held in said notc es in ead provided with radial notches,
pecifieation in the presence of the stud-box, to thereby prevent'said looking I name to this s y tWo subscribing Witnesses.
clip from turning in said box, and other two of said opposite arms adapted to be turned into said radial notches in the screw-head to ALBERT WEAVER 5 thereby prevent said fastening-screw from Witnesses:
turning. JOHN F. CAVANAGH,
In testimony whereof I have signed my CHRISTOPHER A. MURRAY.
