COOKING-STOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 817, dated June 27, 1838.
' To all whom it may concern:
a cylindrical form about two feet four inches long as A, on the drawing which is from sixteen to eighteen inches in diameter lying horizontally and is made of sheet iron. It consists of a double cylinder one within the other with a space of about one inch between them in order that the fire and smoke may pass around the inner cylinder which constitutes the oven which has a door at each end attached to cast iron heads which closes the space between the two cylinders of the oven as N. The oven is supported on two pillars or pipes about one foot five or six inches length connected with the body of the stove at each end and with the oven at or near each end as B, B, which pipes convey the fire and smoke between the inner and outer cylinders of the oven from thence through a joint or elbow O. Situated at or near the center of the oven into the rincipal pipe D, which stands directly be iiind the oven the fire and smoke from the stove is conveyed by projecting the flue about one foot from the back of the stove H. At or near the center lying horizontally on the top of which the principal pipe stands at the outer end of the' flue directly it under the principal pipe there is a valve or damper f for the purpose of shifting thefire and smoke through the pipes or columns around the oven. When required there is also a valve or damper under each of the pipes or columns F, F, leading to the oven for the purposeof conveying the fire and smoke to and, from the oven'as occasion may require. There is a scraper that surrounds the'inner cylinder of the oven; the handle or rod tofwhioh it is attached runs throu h one of the cast iron heads at or near t e J bottom of the oven R, for the purpose 0f cleaning the same from thesoot and ashes which may be collected there. i
That I claim as my improvement and desire to secure by Letters Patent in the above described stove and oven is The having means to alternately shift the heat from and to theoven as occasion JEFFERSON CROSS.
