To (tlbwhom it may concern: Be it'known that I, SAMUEL P. MfronEL a citizen of the United States, residin at Philadel hia, in the county of Philadelp 'a, State of ennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements, in Derrick-Cars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvedderrick-car,
having as its objects to handle'in the most economical manner heavier loads at longer reaches than heretofore;-to handle heavy permit the loads on either side of the car and to provide a safe means of side anchorage or counterbalancetherefor; to provide for theready' pro ulsion of the car'and the transport'ation of t e derricks load from place to place; to parts that standabove train clearance to be readily knocked down for shipment and set up by power, for operation in t e least possible tim'e;'to provide suitable storagecapa'city on the car for the entire equipment reqm'r ,and-to produce a structure attaining these ends at a reasonable cost.

11 the apparatus the car-body 1 comprises the sills 1, carried by the trucks 2. Vertical .channels 3 and inclined channels 4, arranged in pairs, are fixed at their lower ends to the car-bodyandare fixed together at their upper ends by gusset-plates 5 to form fixed stays. The flanges of the respective pairs of inclined channels are disposed to-v ward each other to form guideways, and the several parts of the ways are braced-by the bent angles 6, secured to-the onter'channels,

A cable or line 19 is connected to a becket 20 fixed to one ,of the: fixed backsta an passes under an idler-sheave 21 an over a main sheave 22, journaled in the lower end of one of the movable stays, thence over the sheaves 2 2, journaled at the top of one of the fixed stays, thence over an idler-sheave 21 and main sheave 22, journaled in the -lower end of the second n'aovable'stay, thence over the sheave 23, journaled at the top of i the second fixed stay, and thence to the engine, by which the mast may be lowered and elevated. In the usual operation the mast is held in the vertical position by passing a pin 24 through the head of the fixed stage and the foot ofthe movable stays; but t e mast may be held at various elevations by.
pinning through holes'25 at various points along the inclined ways, and'it is supported in its lowered position by brackets 26on the head of the fixed stays.
The main boom 27 has its foot fulcrumed on the trunnions 28 of a trunnion-block 29;
the latter being fulcrumed on the bolster by in crumed thereon by a in 32 and connected to -a sheave-block 33. bail 34 is fulcrumed by-a pin 35 to a'trunnion-blo'ck 36, which is fulcrumed on the top of the mast b a'pin'37. This drum is adapted to be shifted by conventional mechanism longitudinally on the shaftinto en agement with the fixed clutch '71 .for holdmg it against idling revolution and into engagement with the clutch 72, fixed to the-shaft 70, for revolving it therewith.
